Yes! Couldn't agree more on both of these tunes. The covers were actually better than the originals.

Also, there's a hard rock/emo version of Don Henley's Boys of Summer out. That, too, is much better than the original.

Megadeth and Mötley Crüe both did great covers of Anarchy in the UK. The original was good, too, although Dave Mustaine couldn't understand the words, so he had to make up a few.

Mötley Crue -- Smokin in the Boys Room, Helter Skelter, and Jailhouse Rock. Both great versions of classic songs. Helter Skelter is particularly awesome.

I know it was on a "reality" show but I really liked Ryan Star's cover of "Losing my religion" from Rock Star: Supernova

The Animals -- House of the Rising Sun, a traditional blues song, although it was not exactly a cover of an earlier pop song

The version of "War Pigs" that Cake had on their B Sides & Rarities CD was also pretty damn good.

And, speaking of Cake, their covers of "I Will Survive" and "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps" are amongst my favorites.

you know, when i finally "got" type o, a lot of their songs are hilarious. life is killing me is quite hilarious. the funniest part of cinnamon is when he holds out that long note going into the guitar solo. the note he hits is so low and long it's ridiculous.

John Mayer's "Bold As Love" is pretty bad ass despite some of his other music being trash. His "Voodoo Child" is also up there on equal ground with both the Jimi and SRV versions imo.

Also, if it counts, I'd put the Brian Setzer Orchestra's arrangements of old Stray Cats stuff on the list.

Also the version of "You're the Boss" that he did with Gwen Stefani.
    Good stuff.

It's heretical possibly, as much as I like the original, but I like Metallica's cover of Segar's "Turn the Page".

That Killswitch cover sucks donkey balls. Mine as well put Disturbeds Shout cover on this list then.
that. Everything about it is better. I love Dio, but Howard Jones' voice is way better and much more intense, plus he has such a wider range than Dio. The guitars are much better, the solo is much improved, the drums are VASTLY better, even the bass is better.

It is superior in all ways. Dio only has the upper hand because it's his song. Sorry, but KSE did it better.

Dream Theater's vocalist sucks some major ass but John Petrucci is ing gold, so he makes up for it.

I'm generally not a fan of Pink, but she does a great Janis Joplin.

Can't find a good video, but she also does an awesome cover of GNR's Sweet Child O Mine

I agree about Howard Jones, but he sang 80s classics like Life in One Day and Like To Get To Know You Well...

I find that if you heard the original first than more often than not you like the original better. If you grew up hearing the cover version than you are more likely to find the cover version more appealing to your musical tastes.
