I was seeing your point at the beginning of your post, but the end ruined it..

so you're saying that teams in the league have just NOW caught on to defense winning championships?..sorry, but that's bull ..

we rank 4th defensively, and we've been extremely inconsistent on D..that speaks volumes on the D of the rest of the NBA teams..there's only 3 great defensive teams this year, and they all play in the East..

saying teams just started realizing that it takes D to win les is one of the stupidest statements I've ever heard..

Sacramento in the Webber era was all offense and never won a championship, Dallas Mavericks all offense no ring, Phoenix suns all offense no ring, and i'm sure there are more. Mind you these were good top seeded teams that didn't play for defense. They were just all about trying to outscore you.

You don't remember the run and gun era where every game were like up around 120 points minimum and some even up around 140. Where the is the defense in that?

the teams you named(other than Phoenix) were like the Lakers are now..which is definitely good enough for a le..

the KEY to winning a le, isn't lock down D..the key to winning a le is having the right mix and balance of D and offense..

the Sacramento team that took LA to game 7 was ranked 3rd offensively, and 6th defensively..the Lakers team that beat them was ranked 2nd offensively, and 7th defensively..

the Mavs team that beat us in 2006 was ranked 11th defensively, but 1st offensively..that doesn't sound good, but the Heat team that beat them was ranked 9th defensively, and not much of a difference..

the current Lakers team is ranked 3rd offensively, and 6th defensively..similar to the old Kings, and the 2007 Mavs..they aren't a lockdown defensive team by any means..

the key is balance..we don't have that..the league isn't really different, we just got worse with age, which is expected..I'd take any of the Spurs le teams in a battle against any team in today's NBA..

Are you serious? I want Pop to retire, when Tim retires. The guy's transformed a franchise, and you throw him out the bus?

It's idiotic of those guys to blame Pop for the lose, on the contrary I sincerely appreciate what Pop has done on behalf of the spurs. Even after losing to the lakers, the spurs are still above the rockets on the season standing board and losing to the league's best team isn't a shame that may affact our morale. Although Pop sometimes makes controvercial decisions, but those decisions always lead the spurs to the best result they can get. Pop is an awesome coach.

    Stupid, but typical, post.

As engaging and entertaining as the web is, it also has served as a great tool for revealing the fickle, weak character of many a so-called Spurs fan. At least on talk radio, only a few whiners get through.

It's as though its pre-1999 all over again.

Toughen up Spurs fan and instead of turning on your own team now, how 'bout a little support. Personnel changes, if they are needed, are best made int eh offseason, not now. So why even bring it up.

Besides, Pop has earned the "right", if you want to call it that, to run this team his way, regardless of whether some geeks in their mom's basement agree. What we're seeing take place with this team should not come as a surprise. Aging team = health issues, but you just ride it out with the big three as long as you can be be thankful the ride brought you a few les, which you never had before.

Instead of ing, enjoy what you can of watching this nucleus of players because after this season, there are no guarantees it'll remain intact. Enjoy Pop while you have him, because the day is coming that you won't. And when that happens, you will be longing for the "good old" days of Pop.

    Perspective, people.

I think coach K would be a good option for spurs. The duke sucked ass this year and was snubbed from the top 4 of NCAA, and coach K himself was also badly pissed by his students and Barack Obama's comments, so it may also a good option for him to change a place to work in.

Can't the Pop critics at least wait until the end of the season to start bashing him? Its not as if all the criticism, the majority of w/c is not even constructive at all, will have any influence whatsoever on how the Spurs will peform.

This is the stupidest take, perhaps ever. The Spurs should be maximizing the potential of the talent they have while they have the talent. In later years when the talent isn't there to win les, the only thing fans will be wishing is that the team had made the most of its opportunities while it was a contender. Nobody's going to look back on any of these teams and say, "Gee, Gregg Popovich sure managed to do a lot with that sorry group of scrubs." Popovich has cost the Spurs one le already. Looking down your ignorant brown nose at fans that don't want him to cost the Spurs another one is indicative of your weak character, not theirs.

    Obstructed View,
quit being an ass. the stupidest take is the take that Pop needs to be replaced because the Spurs are on a skid.
Look at the facts and step out of myopia. I want the Spurs to win another le as badly as the next guy. But I'm realistic, and appreciative of what I have.

I think we have disgreed before on other issues; and I think the diference in our philosophical views are quite clear. With this particular team there is only so much a coach can do. there are issues beyond the control of Popovich, namely age, health and time. This team has come a notch down this year, but not because of Pop; but because of a number of other issues.

Pop's not perfect, but he's got enough of a pedigree to have earned my patience.
