how did i not see that coming?
We usually don't start going till June...wind/waves can get pretty brutal this time of year. When we start going we will run as far as 60-70 mile offshore though, so that's why we are picky about wind/weather...If you just want to chase kingfish inshore it's not too bad now if you watch the wind...if you are in a smaller boat make sure you go out at the Port A jetties and not Packery...somebody's gonna get killed there in the spring...they didn't make the jetties long enough and when the wind gets over about 20mph out of the southeast the surf breaks inside the jetties...

Considering your heritage I do not think this is something you should do.
LOL just checked real time buoy data offshore Port A...wind 24 knots gusting to 30, 8' wave height with a 7 second frequency.
I don't get seasick but that is NOT fun.
Since you are my go to guy for fishing. Where would you fish if you just so happened to go to Port A next Monday and Tuesday.
boat? kayak? wading? shore?
Boat. I know monday is a 2 tide day but tuesday is 4 I think. I was thinking shamrock cove on monday.
And I'm a little worried about brown tide and those winds
Wind totally suck right now. Shamrock will be somewhat sheltered, but I never have done well there in these spring winds...I think I would hit the grass line outside Traylor island first...wind will probably be hard out of the SE and you can anchor off the bow with the nose in the wind and should have a shot at reds and trout running the outside shoreline there in 2'-3' of water because the bait should be piling up there...
If you want to fish the shamrock area I would move a little south and work the edges of the little channel under the power line that runs to the island between Packery and Shamrock...
I don't think I've ever fished Traylor Island. We wanted to try Baffin but I've heard some bad reports about brown tide. I thank you and we will try it
Baffin's great but you would be nuts to go down there if you don't know it, especially with dirty water...I love fishing there but there are rocks everywhere...
the first time I went deep sea fishing is probably also my last time.
Every offshore trip needs someone like that for entertainment and chum, plus the beer lasts longer when he's hanging over the side puking his guts out...
I went with my wife, her sister and boyfriend and a couple of other friends on a charter out of Corpus. I think it was something like $45 each.
My wife was puking the entire time, and even though I managed not to puke, I was definitely feeling the sea sickness. There was no way I was gonna toss $90 down the drain, so when we finally dropped anchor, I sucked it up and got out there and tossed the line.
My friends had enough forsight to bring the.....dramamine(?)......and they were having no problems putting down beers.
Definitely a miserable experience that I won't be doing again..........maybe.
And you were in a BIG boat.
We usually go out in a 29 foot Fountain with twin 275's. It's like a drug boat set up for fishing.
Those 8 foot waves with a 7 second frequency will beat you to death going out, and trying to keep any kind of a trolling bait spread once you are there is a .
The only neat part with those big seas is running back in at the end of the day with a buzz...you are running down sea with the waves, and it very "Miami Vice" cool...we run about 50 and spend about 2/3's of the time in the air just skipping from wave top to wave top...
I have only been deep sea fishing in Costa Rica and it was fun. After I got over being sea sick, I caught a 5+ foot sailfish.
I haven't been since I was a younger kid. I have been wanting to
goin down to port a june 11th - 15th, probably going on a midnight fishing run!
I'm fishing a bay tournament that weekend.
Im gonna be at executive keys, maybe we can get together and play some poker at Bernie's or have some damned good blackened sashimi tuna over at Hooks.
Executive Keys is nice. I'll probably stay at one of my dives in Aransas Pass or with friends...We'll be at the park on the island Saturday afternoon for the weigh in. I'll be the one picking up the heavy stringer trophy...
