Well how much would the spurs be under the cap?
Can someone find out who's contracts expire this year?
    I think Manu's is one.

I feel like the Wizards might be a suitable trade partner for us..they might want to tweak their team, since their big 3 hasn't worked out for them..Caron Butler expires a year later than Manu, Brendan Haywood and Andray Blatche would be nice additions as well..I feel like something can work out there..

    Agreed. But look at this:

    http://hoopshype.com/salaries/la_lakers.htm

They're almost 20 mill over the cap for next season without either Odom or Ariza, and they'd be lucky to sign them for 15 mill combined.

I agree Buss will pay the tax, but at some point it gets to be too much, right?

I also agree that they probably value resigning Ariza over Odom, assuming Bynum's health is OK.
Also keep in mind that Bynum just inked a new extension, which, if I'm correct, kicks in next year.

Artest is way too much of a head case. Even this year, when he's been on his best behavior, you can tell he's a guy you can't trust in crunch time. He's out there on his own, doing his own thing, taking too many jump shots, etc.

I love his skills but he takes bad shots and as a result shoots a low percentage.

Yeah, I see it now. Thanks for posting.

The other thing working against the Spurs, or any other team that has their sights set on Ariza, is he's a California dude. I remember reading a comment from him on how much he enjoys being back in Cali.

Yeah, unless Jerry Buss runs over Ariza's dog or something, I think he'll want to stay in LA and they want him back.

Sign Gooden. No money left for anybody else. Re-explore trade for Vince Carter.

these guys will be unrestricted free agents this summer.
after unloading lost of older guys this offseason we should have money to sign a few.

    eddie house - 31yrs, $2.65m in '09

    Ben Gordon - 26yrs, $6.4m in '09 - young, 20ppg, scorer, could replace Manu's scoring

brandon bass-24yrs, $0.9m in '09- young big strong athletic PF with solid numbers for cheap. especailly if dallas blows up their team.

ron artest - 30yrs, $7.4m in '09 -could provide defense, scoring, big strong and athletic

Trevor Ariza - 24yrs, $3.1m in '09 -long shot but provides youth, athleticism, shooting, and DEFENSE. a true Bowen replacement.

matt barnes - 29yrs, $0.8m in '09- athletic SF who can shoot and score.

    carlos boozer - 28yrs, $11.5m in '09

    kyle korver - 28yrs, $5m in '09

mehmet okur - 30yrs, $8.5m in '09 - would be an upgrade over bonner, shoots just as well but a far superior rebounder.

honestly i think Manu is done other that the occasional flash, we should go after Gordon as a replacement, also try Ariza or even Artest in the offseason.
jesus kid, you should really study the basic rules of the CBA before posting such nonsense.
Spurs will only have the MLE, this doesn't put them into position to "sign a few" of your list.
Gordon is out of reach, so is Boozer, so are most of the other guys there. and most need to opt out in the first place, guys like Okur and Korver are unlikely to do this in this FA unfriendly summer.

the more realistic FA options are Sheed or Chris Wilcox. or Gooden, if he works well in the PO. maybe they go for Ariza, he developed something that looks somehow like a shot, but I'm pretty sure the Lakers will offer him also MLE money. and why should a UCLA guy, who always wanted to play for the Lakers, leave this team that will be a contender for the next 3 years, for less money?

considering that the Spurs might have to replace several players, a split of the MLE is likely not unlikely.
    Chris Andersen+ Stephen Graham
    Quinton Ross + Shelden Williams
    Rasho+Wally
    Pachulia+Rodney Carney
or other combinations of such players. that's the more likely scenario IMO.

Yep with only Vaughn and Udoka with expiring contracts, spurs aint
getting much back for those 2.
But you can't rule out the possibility of trading 1 or more of our players.
    Players for picks maybe?
Gonna be an interesting summer.. again.

I was talking about Splitter earlier and yeah, he's still under contract with
    TAU till 2012...
    But, here's the latest.

Obviously guys like Artest, Wallace and even Ariza are out of the question. Are any off-season trades realistic though? Also what free agents seem to be the most realistic?

Matt Barnes seems like a reasonable Free agent signing I like the way he plays. Maybe the Spurs could work a trade for RJ, VC or Nocioni?

Wallace isn't out of the question at all..

the only real options we're going to have for significant trades is Manu..so it will depend on loyalty, and whether or not the front office has enough confidence in him to contribute at a high level next season..

So let me get this straight Wallace isn't out of the question even if we DON'T do a trade? My question is, do we have enough to offer Wallace without trading anyone? Same with Ron Ron do we have enough to offer without trading anyone?

we'll be lucky if Holt offers Gooden any money. Lux tax is going to be lowered and in this economy we're not going anywhere near that.

I think the only free agents worth really going after from that list is Ariza and Wallace. Weather we have a real shot at getting either of them is a totally different story. Other then that bring in Gist along side Hill, Hairston, and Mahinmi. Well and try and scrap for more players out of the draft lol...

My god, we're at this point now?
Well.. I guess it's not THAT early right now.
With Splitter, Gist and Ian on the way, the future
    looks a bit bright.

Still got Hill, Mason and that kid Hairston looked pretty good.
Oh and what about Parker? lol
    The kid is amazing.
Looks like we'll be building around Parker for the future.
I'd say that Duncan and Ginobili can give their best for
    only 2 more years..
    Window is still open.
With those players the future will be going to the lottery.
Building around Parker isn't the way to win tles. He's not as good.

We won championships while TD was the best or close to the best NBA player.Right now we don't have any player close to Lebron,Howard,Kobe or Wade.

Whithout Manu and TD our best way to rebuilt the team will be the NBA draft and be lucky to get one Robinson or Duncan.

How do we even know if James Gist will even be coming over here in the offseason?
