Like Sean was saying last night. Drew needs to get the ball more often.
Exactly. This guy actually can be called A post player. Why? He actually posts up and haS MOVES. HE is by far the best big weve seen since D Rob and if sheed aint possible Id say keep em. I like Drew as A player and I know put forth the effort on D if he stays. And he really has N INTEREST IN BEING HERE. That's rare. He will have offers elsewhere if we dont keep him. BOOK IT.
Like Sean was saying last night. Drew needs to get the ball more often.
i agree, but i would like to see more of tim and drew on floor at same time, when the matchups allow it
The one thing that's starting to bother me, other than his black hole properties, is he is beginning to balk at coming out to set screens. When Parker is on the floor, YOU SET HIM A ING SCREEN. PERIOD. He's a Finals MVP and a 3 time All Star, and you need to make YOUR game complement his. Parker had to wave him out several times last night, when he should have just come out automatically. Drew still doesn't trust that a solid screen on the perimeter is going to get him either a layup on the "roll", or a 12-14 footer on the "pop". His rebounding going off the cliff isn't making me happy, either. Even if you adjust for minutes, he's dropped from 8.6 in Chicago to 6.9 (adjusted) here. Step it up, Drew.
Now for the good: He does have a nice variety of post moves, a consistent jumper, and a much better ability to drive and score than I was aware of. If he can just mesh into more of a "team" mode, he'd be as big a pickup as Gasol. He's been in the league for 7 years, now, though, so that kind of transformation isn't much more likely than 50/50. I think we should sign him this summer, and if it doesn't work out, he becomes a trade asset for 2010.
An offer to Drew Gooden this summer isn't even a question. The question is, how much does he think he's worth in this market and what will the Spurs be willing to pay. I think 3yrs at $4M a year is reasonable, but the Spurs may have other ideas.
About the "black hole" criticism, I think it's just going to take time for him to adjust to the team and more importantly...for the team to adjust to him. If he does give consistent offense and at the very least apply pressure to the interior then he is a valuable asset. But, with two legit superstars they have to collectively to find the right fit/blend.
For me...Gooden off the bench w/ Roger running the point is the best combo right now.
I agree with most of your post, but Roger running the point shouldn't even be an option. The guy is NOT a point guard.
Damn, Gooden had an off night against the Kings. He didn't work his post game nearly as much as I've seen him do lately. He should feast on GS, as long as Turiaf can't check him. If Tim and Drew are on, Ronny will find himself in foul trouble real quick.
Gooden is due for a good might tonight. Let's go "Big Drizzle"

And does my sig only show up twice for me, or does everyone else see 2? Cuz I thought your sig only showed up once on any given page.
Drew was...
@GSW 4/14: 22 minutes, 20 PTS on 7-12 FG, 6-8 FT, 15 REBs
monstrous game..
But, but, but... He's a black hole!!!!

Damn straight...! Gooden keeps playing like this and Peter Holt will bring out the checkbook. Gooden is just what this team has needed since Manu is out till next season. If we end up playing the Fakers then we have someone who when matched up with Tim, can keep Bynum & Gasol honest. And if Bonner is hitting his 3's and Thomas is playing like a Mike Singletary Middle Linebacker then Phil JackASS will be pulling everything he can out of his ASS trying to match the Spurs. And with Bowen back in the rotation again we'll have someone who can really make Kobe exert more energy than usual.
Exactly, he needs to find his way in the team, its normal, anyway, he does great, better than i had expected when spurs signed him.
i think you perfectly sumed up the thing.
good point: ability to score (i agree with you that i didn't think he would have so many moves)
can do better: rebound. he's supposed to be a good rebounder. the game yesterday proved that. hope he'll keep on.
bad: his screens are awful.
but you can suppose rebounding will come and screens setting and team movement can be learnt (even if the PO are already there). i can't think no one, especially Pop, won't tell him to set in' real solid screens.
i agree. he really does make a great interim 6th man for us. instant offense off the bench, athletic energy, and some aggressive work on the glass.
if he can mix in a clutch defensive play or two he'd really fit the bill for us.
Another great game by Good'n'Plenty!
Game 2 vs DAL:
19 mins, 6-9 FG, 1-1 FT, 14 PTS, 3 REB, 1 STL
His points are so important without Manu out there.
Great job, especially in the 2nd quarter when TD and TP were on the bench
He does so much damage in the paint.
Makes you wonder why he didn't get any post scoring opportunities in the 2nd half. He end the 1st with 80% FG, and ended the game with 66% FG, I officially have a Gooden mancrush. I really hope Gooden averages more points than Bonner in the @ Dallas games.
