I've never had a problem with what he brings to the squad. The only time I get frustrated is when he starts jacking up 3's when his shot is off that particular game.

from the beginning of the season up to this point, the good game he had against the jazz was an anomaly. should wait until after the playoffs to see what he can offer. i was definitely a udoka supporter at the beginning of the season but even i have to admit he's not better than last year. if he can produce in the playoffs, he should get a vet minimum.

Frankly, I have a problem with Ginobili doing the same thing.

Me too, but that was only a big problem recently. In past seasons I had lots of confidence when his shot was in the air. Can't say the same this season.

Ime's way too poor of a defender to bring back. Even at the veteran minimum I think I'd rather go elsewhere.

    That's the most disappointing part.

He was supposed to be a D specialist when he joined the Spurs

I don't like seeing the Spurs have to rely on average or less than average players -- like Vaughn, Bonner and Ime. If we spend alot of $ signing Gooden or others, it's fine to sign Ime on the cheap at vet min. But I think his days are numbered. He's not a very good shooter, he's slow, he can't jump, he can't finish at the rim or run with a break. He has more deficiences than attributes, IMO.

If Pop wondered why the team's defensive defiency is way down, then he should look no further than that point. And let's not forget to include Finley in that bunch. Especially since he's getting big minutes guarding the opposition's best perimeter player.

Udoka is gone. We will need the roster spot if we are to improve. And for the love of God can we please stop with the 6-4 NBA SF and the 6-8--6-9 centers on our team. We must get bigger and more athletic if we are gonna win another le.

I don't get why so many people hate him, he is a really solid player. He can defend well, shoot good and isnt stupid. I have been inpressed by how he has played in the little minutes he has gotten. He was also pretty good last year.

He was indeed pretty good last year. My point on him is that, while he works hard and is very professional and occassionally has a good game here and there, he's simply too athleticially challenged for what the Spurs need out of that backup SF position. As someone said earlier in the thread, the Spurs need a 6'6" or 6'7" guy, with greater offensive and defensive capabilities.

The selling point for this guy is that he was going to be Bowens replacment. But from day one you could tell that wasn't going to happen he is just to slow. He does not have the lateral quickness to stay with most of the SF in the league. But to be honest you get what you pay for....

If he stops shooting open ones, Pop sits him. That's the rule. I remember a quote from Pop WAY back in like '98 or '99, vis a vis Jarren Jackson that if he passed up open shots, he was going to sit for a LONG time.

As for his defense, he can't defend all of the players Bowen can. Then again, he does a better job with the more physical post up types than Bruce does. I've also noticed that he's giving players a little more room so he has a better angle on their drive attempts. If that invites the jumper, well that's actually what the Spurs want. Get a hand up in his face, and turn around and block out.
