I think it was about fiscal and cons utional conservatives showing disenfranchisement with the direction of its own national leadership....exactly the type of grass-root organization that brought Obama to power over Clinton and McCain with his anti-war/anti-Bush message...but it may take another round of congressional losses in 10' and 12' before they really start to get the message...

I think it's about Limbaugh fans standing around being idiots. The people you see in the crowds don't even look like politically savvy people. They're American idiots who catch on to buzz words that they don't understand.

Also, there is a bunch of them that have Obama-hate signs... that has nothing to do with fiscal conservatism, even if it was true that the last president we had wasn't big on spending (And if you didn't know, that's not true.)

These tea-party goers are your typical southern backwoods and your typical cowboys. A bunch of poor people who are stupid to believe that Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity really give a damn about them not having any money. They are told they should hate Obama so they do. Even though he's not raising taxes on the poor, you still see these ing re s standing outside with signs depicting the president attacking Uncle Sam.

    It's just sad.

Sean Hannity? Rush Limbaugh? Glenn Beck? Wango-Tango? The GOP leadership has lost control of its own media wing...they are out there operating with no sense of decency ....they need to be eliminated.....eliminated with 'extreme prejudice'...

You did well to begin by acknowledging that political leadership on the right is out of touch with the electorate, but I don't see this line working out too well for you.

Free speech is unruly and can be disturbing.

Cheers to you, t_d_f, for your profane and insulting denunciation of the great Southern unwashed. Whatever so excited them to get up off the sofa and go a protesting is surely not worth paying any attention to. Not any more than your crude regionalism or crayon sociology.

    Why now, Captain Willard?

The GOP never had control of the media to begin with, and the media has been lacking decency for at least a decade, probably two...cable TV, then the internet, did us in.

All I know is that Obama isn't raising taxes on poor people but all of these uneducated folks are protesting against his tax policy.

A bunch of poor, uneducated people are crying about CEOs and other rich white-collar types and TV/Movie stars and athletes and popular talk show hosts will have to pay more taxes because some fat-ass with a radio show told them they should. He said this black guy was going to come in and take their guns and all their money going 20 generations into the future; and they believe him. So now, we get the tea-parties.

The ability to prey on the emotions of the fearful and the stupid, also known as the Republican base (excluding real fiscal conservatives, if they exist), was always the great strength of the right-wing leadership.

t_d_f : The amount of ignorance is unreal, and there's an ugly streak of real racial antipathy in the picture. Just remember the fearful and the stupid are our fellow Americans. Their political masters will continue to abuse them; that's partly why they want to abuse the rest of us.

Why can't people have a protest about taxes? I mean if people can have protests about global warming and gay marriage, why can't they have protests about taxes?

It was a mixture of anti-Tax/Large government, anti-Obama, and anti-Democrat sentiment.

The idea was noble, but it got co-opted by crazies who just wanted to .

Taxes are getting borderline out of control (not talking about just income tax).

TDF - you are just too stupid to deal with. Your elitism, snobbery and utter disdain for anything having to do with conservatives is really pitiful to behold. Are you trying to convince us, or trying to make yourself feel better?

The people at these tea parties were not poor, uneducated southern hicks. They were people from all walks of life, rich and not so rich, highly educated and just those with a high-school education. These tea parties were held all across America - they even had a pretty big one in NYC.

It wasn't just about taxes, you idiot, it was about the Federal Government getting too big and intruding on our lives in ways our forefathers never intended. One of the speakers at the Fort Worth tea party was a small business owner. He said to think back to 1984 - then he said:

In 1984, who would've ever thought, in this country, that the Federal Government would
    - take over banks
    - have a stake in private enterprises
    - fire the CEO of a major company
    - dictate the pay of executives
    - dictate what kind of cars we can drive
    - dictate what kind of lightbulbs we can use
    - dictate where we can set our thermostat
    - dictate where and when we can pray
    - dictate the terms of your mortgage

And that, my clueless friend, is why people are angry and fed up! Only time will tell if this movement continues to grow and have any impact on the 2010 elections.

What I find rather interesting is WHY you libs are so bent out of shape over these tea parties - and why you find it so necessary to denigrate the participants. The fact that you guys are so uptight and bothered by them gives us conservatives much satisfaction!

Yet another honest admission of the real reason for the tea parties. You guys are making progress.

No one is really bothered by them. Amused? Sure.

    Like the 1984 speech.

    Amusing.

Grossly exaggerated, full of lies, but amusing.
