I don't know about traffic laws in Cleveland.
But in California, there are designated Fire Lanes painted red. On a private parking lot (like the parking area of a Gym), you can park anywhere except areas designated for Fire Lanes & the Handicap.
On private parking, you can park on the grass, park across 3 parking spots, park with 2 wheels on a curb, not park in the parking spots, park under the fountain, wherever...as long as it's not a fire lane or handicap area. It's all legal, it's only up to the parking lot owner if he wants you there or not.

If you park your car like that, or take up 2 spaces, you are asking for it to get keyed. If you just act normal, then people respect that. I mean you are sticking up for him doing that, but the guy also takes a room for free, has his ice taken to the stadium by police, and won't walk around a city because he don't want fans coming up to him. There aren't any Auntie Ann's pretzels here or a neighborhood Chipos. Cleveland is a small town compared to LA. Celebrities just don't go walking around, they'd get mugged or mobbed.
Even a normal guy like me can't just park a nice car in a backlot in LA without worrying about it getting jacked or vandalized.
Even small time actors/actresses wear sunglasses and get whisked here and there to avoid the mobs.

I'd even go as far to say that Lebron is a bigger star here than Kobe is in LA. Lebron has been a superstar here since he was a sop re in High School.
