Ha, yeah was taking note of that yesterday too. And Doc Rivers played a few years for Spurs too.
That so many former Spurs or those from our organization are excelling this year and we're not? For instance, Vinny Del Negro, loved him as a player, has now coached his Bulls team to game 7 with the defending champs. Or you've got Mike Brown, former Spurs assistant that will probably lead his team to the Finals, once again. Put Danny Ferry in there too. Then you've got George Karl, good friend with Pop and former Spur player from the ABA, coaching his once "one and done" Nuggets to the Western semis and possibly Western Finals.
Look, I know we had our injuries this year and all, but no excuses. We will find our way back to the elite of the NBA very quickly. Just found it ironic that we're already out of the playoffs while these associates of ours are still playing.

P.S. Also former Spur(or at least our rights to him)....Luis Scola not doing too shabby either.![]()

Gregg Popovich is developing a Dean Smith-like family tree in the basketball world.
whaz the point of this thread?
epic fail...
Cleveland- Ferry, Brown, Blanks
Portland- Pritchard
OKC- Presti (and P.J. for awhile)
Boston- Rivers
Chicago-Del Negro
Knicks-D'Antoni
Phoenix-Gentry
Are there any Phil Jackson proteges in the NBA?
Other than Del Negro, it's not as if this is the first time that those members of the Spurs family have found success since leaving SA. Brown and Karl have each coached teams to the Finals, Rivers coached a team to a ring, and Ferry had some say in building Brown's Finalist team in 2007.
Members of the organization getting key positions on other teams reflects well on the Spurs. It is also makes keeping a high quality FO a constant challenge as your best personnel leave.
It just goes to show that the Spurs way is a winning way!
Brent Barry - enjoying the Rockets bench in the 2nd round.
Don't forget Steve Kerr in Phoenix...
Not ironic, just to be expected.. the Spurs have seeded their DNA throughout the NBA.
I thought he still worked for us.![]()
del negro had nothing to do with it. he is an idiot doesnt know what to do in the closing moments, manage time or even save timeouts. as far as im concerned this series going seven games is the celts fault for sucking so much with out kg defensivley.
Agent Kerr has served us well over in phoenix.
No, you are the idiot for making such a stupid comment. Start naming all the first year head coaches in the NBA who led their team to the playoffs in their first year. Vinny has done a of a job and his team of youngsters are taking the World Champs (with or without KG...they still have Pierce, Allen, Rondo, etc.) to the limit. In fact this series is now considered by most as one of the, if not THE most, exciting 1st round playoff series in NBA history! The Chicago Bulls are still playing and we're not. And we were loaded with experience and had to play the #6 seed and had home court advantage to start with. Most likely the Bulls will falter in Boston tomorrow but, Vinny turned the Bulls around and has them playing some damn good basketball. Pop and Mike Brown will both be the first coaches to tell you they are very impressed with what Vinny has done and done so without a Duncan, Kobe, LeBron or Wade. He has done it with a rookie Point Guard, Derrick Rose leading the way. As too closing minutes, managing time, saving time outs, etc., every coach in the league will tell you he has done great considering the tremendous pressure put on him under the bright lights known as your first time in the playoffs. , I don't even know why I responded to such an idiotic comment. Never mind...!
