If you think about it, the Mavs are now really considered our rival because we're dead even in playoff history. Spurs were victorious in 01 and 03 and Mavs in 06 and 09. Now come to think about it, the Spurs beat the "old school mavs" with Nash and Fin and have yet to beat the "new mavs" with Terry, Damp...... Maybe Michael Finley is a bad luck charm for us.....lol
Because Dallas is owned by Marc Cuban, and Houston is not. Plus, when Houston won the championship, there was a lot of fan feeling here against them. Still, who can hate Yao?
Plus, so many of the Mav posters on this board are just coarse, foul-mouthed jerks. I know some of the spurs posters are as well...but this IS a spurs forum...not a Mavs or Lakers or Phoenix forum. Some folks have a big prob with that.

Rockets- No reason for Mavs or Spurs fans to hate them. No recent success, no real "villain" players.
Mavs- Spurs and Rockets have both been eliminated from playoffs by Dallas in recent history. Loudmouth, abrasive owner, "villain" players like Terry and Howard.
Spurs- Lots of recent success. Mavs have been eliminated twice by them in recent history. "Villain" players such as Manu, Bowen and Duncan.

Cuban is irritating, but he does it on purpose. He tries to be hated to get the whole rivalry thing going on (and it works). Like I said, I'd rather Houston wins, but if not them, then Dallas before anyone else.
The Mavericks have one of the most iest/stupid coaches in the NBA, and it's one of the main reasons why I hate them and have for many years.

bumpy_wumpy, do we have to 'splain everything to you? Houston is NOT irrelevant. They have been NBA Champs twice already. The Spurs have been NBA Champs four times. And neither of us have ever lost in the NBA Finals. The Dallas Mavettes have ZERO NBA Championships and are totally irrelevant to everyone who has anything to do with the NBA from owners to fans. You girlieboyz have got to get over yourselves. We all realize that is killing you ladies from Dallas having never won anything and the only time your Mavettes got close it turned out to be the most embarrassing event in NBA history. Just face it, you people are a doomed group when it comes to championships. It is written in stone.
In my opinion, it's because the Mavericks break their fans hearts, and people hate on the Spurs because they're supposedly boring, and they win a lot of les, so the hate is there...
