As much talent as Dirk had around him, he never had one clear all-star playing with him during his prime year. Howard was the best, and he barely made it in 07. Fact is Dirk had to be monster on offense almost every night for the Mavs to win.

All of the talking heads always stress defense. I am not talking about the average Joe. Offense does get credit, obviously, but when it comes to people analyzing the game, they always say defense is what wins you a championship.

Dirk was a couple plays away from winning a championship in 2006. And talking heads put Steve Nash into the freakin' Hall of Fame.

Overall Dirk has had comparable talent over the course of his career. In 2006-2008, the Mavs had undeniable "talent" despite the "shortcomings" of their team.

If he has had comparable talent and KG made multiple trips to the lottery, who is the better player? The Mavs are talented but nowhere near as talented as last year's Celtics. Every player in the Celtics starting lineup is better than the Mavs starters around Dirk. And the Celtics had a better bench.

Yes but they never were consistent 20 pts scorer, at least until this year when Terry was very good. But in years past Terry would go from Player of the Month candidate to average player.
