DO you think Manu or Tony could make it into the list of the 50 greatest ever NBA players? Certainly there are some on the list who have never even won a NBA ring, much less thrree as both guys have. Or have Tony and Manu played too few years to merit consideration?
Naturally, if one or both make the list, they'd have to bump off one or two of the guys currently on the list and it would be interesting to know your choices.

on another board, we voted for the top 100 players and none of them made it

I think, at least manu deserves to be in the top100 basketball player list but maybe not in the top 100 nba players list...tony has a chance to become a top50 player, but only if he gets to the finals without timmy next to him.

If it is 50 greatest NBA players no, but if it is 50 greatest basketball players then Manu should be in it.

I concur. Manu's achievements outside the of the NBA plus his NBA les are hard to match. I think Tony needs a few more years before we can make any judgement.

As much as I love both of them, neither of them belongs anywhere near a top 50 list. Give Parker several more years of great play and we might revisit for him. If you remove the NBA-only restriction, Manu's easily top 25.

Pssst. They're never going to actually update the top 50 list. It was a top 50 list because it was the 50th anniversary of the NBA. They'll just wait until the 75th anniversary and add 25 new players. To remove anyone would be disrespectful to a player that is most likely in the HOF.

Tony has a chance. He's still really young and has accomplished a lot already individually in the NBA. Manu on the other hand probably has no shot in the NBA. There's many more players that have a lot more individual accomplishments in the NBA than he does. Not saying this is fair but Manu really hasn't accomplished a lot individually in the NBA other than helping this team win and getting the 6MOY award which I still think is a stupid award. He was lucky to have been a one time AS in the NBA (heck even Finley has been an AS more than once). Now as far as his international career goes I think not too long ago he was one of the top 50 on the list as far as international players go.

Every single one of the Top 50 who is already eligible for the Hall of Fame is in. I think at this point, we're waiting mostly on Shaq to retire to have the whole group of them in.

And your larger premise is exactly right. The Top 50 list will never be revised, other than by fans in internet forums.

What are you saying here? that you find funny that people don't consider him one of the greatest 50 basketball players of all-time, or that there's people that think he could be?

If you remove the NBA only restriction, yes he is. He's one of the few players to win all the biggest events in basketball while beign a major part of his teams (MVP of every tournament he won, except for the NBA where he came one vote short of getting finals MVP).

Manu will obviously never come close from an NBA-only perspective. TP could get close, but we'd have to win another le, since I'm assuming he would be our #1 option. It's obviously a really tough list though, so I don't expect him to make it.

We've been fortunate to have a guy that will be in the top 10 when it's all set and done though.
