A state appeals panel has ruled that Kobe and Vanessa Bryant must pay unemployment benefits to their former housekeeper, who is suing them for harassment.
The California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board affirmed a decision by Administrative Law Judge Mary McInerny, who said that Maria Jimenez testified credibly that she quit because she was repeatedly "demeaned and humiliated" by her employer. The Bryants failed to present evidence to contradict Jimenez's testimony, according to McInerny's decision.
"It means everything to her,'' said Jimenez's attorney, William Vogeler. "She's fighting to survive in this economy like the rest of us. The Bryants had tried to fight her getting $300 a week."
A lawyer for the Bryants, Jon Daryanani, could not immediately be reached for comment.
Jimenez, a Peruvian immigrant who is a U.S. citizen, sued the couple in March. She said the Laker star's wife "badgered, harassed and humiliated'' her, including making her touch dog feces as punishment for potentially ruining a blouse, according to the lawsuit in Orange County Superior Court.
The lawsuit also alleged Vanessa Bryant called Jimenez "a (expletive) liar,'' "dumb,'' and "lazy."
The Bryants have denied the account of Jimenez, who worked at the couple's Newport Coast home from September 2007 to March 22, 2008.
Jimenez receives $326 a week in unemployment benefits, Vogeler said. Under state and federal laws, she can draw up to 26 weeks of benefits with extensions for another 56 weeks.
The appeals board's decision became final on May 1, Vogeler said.

Still, the fact that it got all the way to a court and even an appeals court? If Kobe had any kind of class he would have stopped it immediately, paid the woman her money, and gone on with life.

Dude..his wife is psycho..if the lady asked for $300 TOTAL she would have fought it. It doesn't matter.
But when you're a ridiculously famous person like Kobe you can't let this sort of stupid happen. I know most people probably don't care about a poor immigrant getting treated like crap and then suing for what she is owed, but it still looks poorly on Kobe.
And in the past few years (by this I mean post-rape) Kobe has been so careful in recultivating his image I am surprised.
I guess the conversations went like this:
Kobe: Just let me pay her and get this over with, its not worth the hassle and press.
Vanessa: Oh you mean like you've paid other women to go away? No, that doesn't have a dime coming to her and we're not paying her anything.
Kobe: Ok, ok.
I guess he's stuck with her because, from what I've read, they have no pre-nup. And Cali is a community property state. So unless he's ready for an MJ-style divorce payout, he's stuck.
The fact that he let this get to court probably means she didn't really deserve the money. It's not a lot of money and the working conditions were pretty bad (the dog incident) so the judge probably gave the maid the benefit of the doubt because the Bryant's have so much money.
That was probably exactly what happened...I'd put money on it. You know, as much as we hate him, Kobe's probably not a bad guy. Yes, he cheated on his wife...but that chick is psycho..he probably did it hoping she'd leave him...lol.

A good person would not let anyone do this. I am not saying Kobe was the one guiding the maid's hand into dog , but he could have stopped it and put his foot down.
I know if my family/girlfriend is rude to someone or mean, I let them know about it. I am sure Kobe's wife can be a bia, but he did screw another woman and publicly humiliated her, wouldn't you be a little cranky?
