I'd rather have Isaiah Thomas coach than a classless like star er phil http://youbeenblinded.com/video-phil...fg-credit/3083
As for AJ, he'd be fine as an assistant - Emphasis on assistant![]()

Never understood why Mavs fans bashed AJ...dude was the only coach who could take you to the Finals...Coach of the Year..and yet you bash him..explain?
I'm secretly hoping Bruce Bowen retires (as a Spur, hopefully) and is part of the coaching staff long enough to see Duncan and Pop retire and then become HC. I really don't think Bud'll be around long enough to see the big chair.
I hope Duncan and Pop both retire in 2015.
You know..I agree Avery would be a good coach..but damn..you're an asshole. Not EVERY Spurstalk person thinks Avery sucks.
No way this happens. Pop will retire in 2012 with Timmy. I'll worry about the coaching situation in 2011.
mouse is a re
Who really cares? When Timmy and Manu are gone, the core of Spurs as we know them will cease to exist.. there will be a clean slate to work with.
very good point as always 228 .... thanks i appreciate you keepin it real all the time props to you
It's for sure I would never watch/listen to another post-game interview. I just can't stand listening to the little troll.
I don't like the way he talked about his team during that Golden State series. A lot of that came down to the battle between AJ and Don Nelson - and AJ lost. He was a young coach - he could have manned up and admitted it. Instead he hung his players out to dry. I can't believe that went unnoticed by other players in the league.
Mario Elie is just about ready for a HC spot. Bring him back. Put Bruce in a suit next season and start grooming him for the job. Convince Robert Horry that his playing days are over, and give him a clipboard. Tell David Robinson that the team and the city needs him one more time. But not Avery Johnson... please. He was already obnoxious enough. Imagine how he would be in the arena where his jersey is hanging. Can you imagine being a player and having to listen to him talk about what he did to get it there?
I don't know how serious Pop is about retiring with Duncan. He has enough money and personal interests outside of basketball to occupy himself with should he retire. He says he doesn't really enjoy games, rather he appreciates them. So I'm thinking a lot will depend on how the Spurs manage to bridge the gap to the post-Duncan era. If they get some decent talent soon, Pop may appreciate the potential and decide to hang around. But if its a long rebuilding process, I think he'd rather grow grapes.
try aj when pop's gone!!!!
And if LeBron goes off to the bright lights, big city New York, then Mike Brown comes back to SA and takes over as Head Coach when Tim & Pop retire.
Of course Laker Larry, would want us to have Phil Jackson because when the Fakers fail again this year, little Kobe will storm into Dr. Buss's office and DEMAND that Phil gets fired.

After Pop Spurs would be lucky to get AJ. Most coaches are really bad. AJ is a micro-manager, but then so was Pop when he got started. More importantly, AJ has shown an ability to win. He's annoying but he seems to be able to command players' attention. Could Bud do the same... no. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but coaching is about egos and alpha dogs and Bud would get ignored.
If Pop and RC don't start planning for current success, much less future success, then it won't matter. If the team falls of the cliff, we might as well rehire Bob Weiss and develop young talent because we'll be a ty team at that point anyway.
AJ was also a worse player than Jacque Vaughn. Consider the source.
Okay, you aren't even bothering to read anything. Sorry for thinking you weren't an idiot. Won't happen again. Have fun, bag.
AJ as coach and Manu as trade bait could be another ring for the Spurs?
Did you read who the quote was from? It happens to be the person who was making a case that AJ shouldn't be the coach, and who you were arguing with. I was telling you not to bother and you threw a hissy of mousical proportions.![]()
yeah..he kind of ed himself on that one..![]()
Miss Interpreted? Is that someone we should know? Or is it like Miss Congeniality? How about using the tools (spell checker) correctly? Or just using your eyes to see? Or maybe you just wrote a phrase that I mis-interpreted?
AJ got out-coached in that Golden State series. A good leader says "the buck stops here". AJ didn't do that. You connect the dots.
How do I know what AJ would talk about? Because AJ's favorite subject is... AJ. Like I said in that same thread you quoted:
When the Spurs won the first Championship, AJ got up and talked about AJ.
When David's jersey got retired, AJ got up and talked about AJ.
When his own number got retired, AJ gut up and talked about AJ.
When the Mavs played good, AJ talked about AJ.
It was only when they got -slapped in the first round that he suddenly noticed the players on his team.
It's not just that he questioned his players - some of them deserved it. But he wants to take credit for the good, and pass the buck for the bad. And whether you like it or not, the single biggest deciding factor in that series was the coaches. There's no shame in it - Nelson is a great basketball mind, and he's been around forever. Plus he had all that inside knowledge of the Mavs. But AJ dumped it all at the feet of his players. He annoyed me before. But I lost respect for him after that.
And, frankly, if his players really all quit on him, it is still probably a reflection on him.
There's always a guy like you who's new to spurstalk, acts like a moron and thinks he has some spectacular insight into what the Spurs should and shouldnt be doing. People are only giving their opinions, so i'm not sure why it hurts your feelings that a lot of people here dont like AJ.
I, for one, like AJ...i just think he has an abrasive personality that people are only going to respect if he wins les. Pop couldnt continue to act the way he does and have players respect him if didnt have les to back it up with.
I think Bud would make a great coach...he's heady, he's more of a psychologist like Pop, than a drill sergeant like AJ. He's also been around to see the good and the bad over the last 14 years. Pop has basically been his coaching mentor...and that obviously carries weight with a lot of people around the NBA.
"Consider the source" means exactly what it said. If you haven't been here long enough to remember a thread about AJ from the previous day then maybe you shouldn't be posting as though you know everything in the world, or at very least taking advice from people who are watching you barking up the AJ tree with GSH. Certainly going off on the wrong person just because you've got your hackles raised by the discussion makes you look like a re . I guess we'll have to call you KBP Junior for your unapologetic and badly-worded retort.
If you don't know what that means, ing look it up, newbie.
