When I first saw the gif, I thought he was smacking him and being an ass. But now that I look it over it is not what it looks like. He clearly did not smack him. Look at his hand. He was just giving Pau a rub. I can understand the hate for Kobe (some of it deservedly so) and any chance for people to jump on him, they'll do it.

I thought what Kobe did to Pau was more than excessive. If I were Pau I would have put Kobe's front teeth into the back of his neck. And I thought his pouting and being a to his team all through the game last night was shockingly stupid and ineffective. I understand how people could outright hate the guy.
But that girl walked in for her medical examination with six different traces of semen in her underwear. And if he did rape her, nobody really knows that besides him and her. I personally believe he didn't, but at the end of the day I don't really know. Just like the people who think he did, don't really know either. I'm sure he was talking to him. I'm sure he was try to pump him up. But that said, Pau might be a puss, but he's still a grown man... and a veteran player in this league. If he wasn't motivated on his own he certainly wasn't going to be motivated by Kobe grabbing his head and pushing it hard enough to the side that Pau's whole upper body rocked at the waist.

I wouldn't care what their motivational reasons were, or if it caused pain or damage or not; if one of my co-workers ever grabbed my head and pushed it like that I'd stand up and knock them the out. Or at least try to.
Fair enough. Different people react different ways.
And even though these guys are professional they still need motivation from time to time. I wasn't satisfied with the team's lack of effort and heart last night and I'm sure Kobe wasn't either and that was all he was trying to do with Pau.
