DAMN: AJ out of June fight against Matt Brown.
An injured knee has forced Anthony Johnson out of June 20 fight with Matt Brown.
The bout was scheduled for the televised main card of The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale, which airs on e TV.
Johnson released the news with a recent MySpace bulletin, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the injury with a source close to the fighter.
However, the UFC has yet to announce the injury, and as of Tuesday morning, it was still listed on the UFC.com Events page.
The UFC has a full month to find a replacement, though the bout could be scrapped from the already-loaded fight card, which takes place at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort. The televised slot could be fill be an already announced preliminary bout between veteran Chris Lytle and Kevin Burns or a rumored bout between Melvin Guillard and Gleison Tibau.
Johnson gave no time table for his return. The welterweight fighter was going for his third consecutive win following a knockout of Kevin Burns in December and a TKO win over Luigi Fioravanti in February.
Brown, meanwhile, is looking for his fourth win in five UFC fights. He most recently scored a brutal first-round TKO of Pete Sell at UFC 96 in March.
And again...
Veteran heavyweight and once again rising contender Cheick Kongo (14-4-1 MMA, 7-2 UFC) will replace Heath Herring (28-14 MMA, 2-3 UFC) and fight Cain Velasquez (5-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) at next month's UFC 99 event.
Kongo posted the change on his Facebook early Wednesday morning, and the UFC has since made the adjustment official.
UFC 99 takes place on June 13 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany.
On Tuesday the UFC announced that an injury forced Herring out of the co-main-event fight. However, a report from MMA FanHouse stated the fighter instead was dealing with a sickness that's left him out of training for the past couple weeks.
It is currently unknown if the Kongo vs. Velasquez bout will remain in the same slot on the evening's schedule.
As far as drawing power in Germany and the potential impact on the heavyweight le picture, Kongo is arguably an upgrade. However, his UFC 99 appearance would be his second fight in just two months. He most recently topped Antoni Hardonk with a second-round TKO at UFC 97.
It was the third consecutive victory for Kongo, whom UFC President Dana White recently said was back in the le picture and possibly just a win or two away from a shot at the belt.
Good...I wanna see Kongo the ball crusher get smashed...

Satoshi Ishii to Sign With Sengoku
A press conference was held in Tokyo today, announcing that 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist in Judo, Satoshi Ishii, has signed with World Victory Road to fight in their SENGOKU event. No debut date was announced but he is expected to debut within the year. This is easily the biggest signing of the year and a HUGE signing for WVR.
Update #1: Ishii has signed for more than one fight. He has signed a provisional contract and on Thursday he will sign the real contract at an open to fans contract signing event in Japan.
*******************************************
Dana said he would let him go if "he hit the lottery" so I guess thats it. Good for Ishii...hope to see him in the UFC in the next few years.
UFC 102 rumored card = badass.
Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt
Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva
Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera
Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Chris Tuchscherer
Nick Catone vs. Mark Munoz
Junior dos Santos vs. Justin McCully
Evan Dunham vs. Matt Veach
James Irvin vs. Wilson Gouveia
If Jardine wins I hope he wins another 2 or 3 fights in a row....that guy is so inconsistent its maddening.
He mainly got hugely overrated with his wins over Forrest and Chuck. The loss made Forrest change his approach to fighting. He was reckless in that fight..
I put a towel in my 2006 Ford Escape XLT so I quit sweating on the driver seat after the gym.
