They always do, especially Barkley..
On the pre-game charles and kenny said Duncan would be the starting PF on both of there all-time starting line-ups... saying that olajuwon or russel couldnt play PF.
was nice to see...
They always do, especially Barkley..
I think Olajuwon could play PF.
Duncan has always played center, even if he is listed on the scoresheet as a PF.
Duncan > Hakeem
even when DRob, Nazr, Rasho, and Fab have played next to him? Wow that's weird.
Offensively, you are correct. Tim has both the smarts and the footwork to be categorized as one of the best post players in history. One of the TV analysts said he had the second best post game on the planet to Olajuwan, before he played an NBA game. David always had a much more PF oriented offensive game, facing the basket, shooting, driving, cutting. I always said they switched positions from offense to defense.
However, David was the defensive center until he hung up his kicks. He was the cover for the opponent's center, which in those days still included Dream, Shaq, Ewing,'Zo, AND the last line of defense at the hoop. Tim didn't take over those duties until his seventh season when David was gone.
+1
Man, imagine Hakeem+TD together in the paint![]()
He has the "wide screen" version.
i'd love to see them going against Kareem and Bill Russell
Duncan has played Center and Power Forward over the years. If you can't decide who played which position when David and Tim were the Twin Towers of San Antonio, then just go to the classic or original definition of the "Jump Center" and figure it out from there.
P.S. - There was one experiment where Pop played the Triple Towers with Will Perdue, David Robinson and Tim Duncan with Timmy playing the Small Forward. The Spurs held a very good Indiana Pacers team to 55 points in a game in the 1997 season with the Triple Towers starting lineup. Timmy guarded Chris Mullen.
Barkley loves Duncan. He's always saying he's(Tim) the best powerfoward of all time.
Barkley has good taste in power forwards.![]()
True, but he forgot about Tim when asked to name his team.
Kenny had to ask Charles who he thought was the greatest power-forward of all-time, because he couldn't understand how Chuck would leave him off the team.
I liked Kenny's team with Russell, Duncan, Bird, (I think?) Jordan, and Magic.
Pop played that lineup after Sean went down. I saw that game one against the Suns the other day in my old VCR, TD monster game, and he started the game guarding McCloud.
That reminds me of 2004-2005 against the Suns when Timmy started out defending Q-Rich and doing a very good job.
Younger Timmy was pretty good when guarding smaller players or when switched onto a quicker player in a PnR.
SB you have a monster elephant memory

Actually I have a lot of Spurs games on tape since 95. And every off season I see a lot of those.
I've been recording every game for the past several seasons. Being able to watch great games from the past is a fun way to pass the long off season.
Duncan was athletic as before his surgery, it's really forgotten when people mention his physical gifts..
I've been watching the '99 run the past 2 weeks, and he was truly different in that aspect..
It's easy to forget that he once could move. The surgery was early in his career, we're used to him not being as athletic. Although he did play out of his mind in his MVP years, especially the '02-'03 run.
Those early years are wonderful to watch. We've been spoiled having him on our team. We expect nothing short of brilliance.
At least he still is brilliant on the court, even if he can't jump anymore.![]()
His MVP runs were his prime, where he combined everything..I believe his first few years were his absolute peak from a purely athletic standpoint though..
I don't worry about Tim anyways, he can play the high post and shoot well enough to remain as an elite player for a few more years..
