He's right. At the same time, he's got to demand the ball more and when he does get it, be more aggressive. When he has been, he's been tough to stop. And, Bynum is capable of doing more than just being out on the court running up and down.

The Nuggets do a great job of initial ball denial. More effort needs to come from the Laker guards to get the ball into the post.
The Nuggets big men are great weakside help defenders but are pretty mediocre post defenders. The fact that LA has not tried to take advantage of this is alarming IMHO.

bryant doesn't even need to give up that many shots. give gasol 15-20 attempts a game and the lakers would have taken out the rockets in 6 and wouldn't be struggling against the nuggets.
Problem is that when he's out there with the bench they don't give him the ball. He should have taken every shot at the beginning of that 2nd quarter run by the Nuggets

But all kidding aside, Bynum was a bright spot of the last game, he's looking betta and bettah.
Agree. Nene and Martin have done a pitiful job of containing Gasol and Bynum. I'm frankly surprised Phil hasn't filtered the offense through these two more.
Mind you, I'm glad he hasn't...but I'm also surprised.
One thing that's extremely annoying is when a big man who's not a consistent back to the basket one on one scorer that isn't fighting for position at all makes a public demand for more touches as if he should be able to say that and his team can take care of the rest.
Gasol is shooting so well because the touches he's getting are within the rhythm of the offense and when he's in the right position to score. He has NEVER been the consistent low post scorer that can have the ball dumped down to him where he can go to work on his own. Same thing with Dwight Howard.
Well Gasol CAN dominate if given the opportunity.
Even if he's not making shots he can draw fouls on the Nuggets big men, and that to me is going to be the key to success. Keeping Anderson and Nene and Martin in foul trouble.
Gasol receives A LOT of touches. All most every time down.
One of the problems is that he fails to obtain the low post, or maintain the low post.
He is easily pushed to the high post, where he is forced to make a decision: shoot jumper, drive, pass? and he then takes too long to make a decision.

Why are all you moron Laker fans criticizing Gasol? He's shooting 62%. Meanwhile, Bryant is taking horrible shots, and looking more and more like the selfish gunner he has always been. The only time he really gives the ball up is when he can't get his own shot.
The reason the Lakers aren't steamrolling people is because of Bryant, not because of Gasol. All you idiots who see the world through purple and gold glasses can't understand that Bryant should be the second option on offense, not the first. Especially against Denver. If the Lakers made a concerted effort to go to Gasol in the first half, they could foul out Denver's entire front line by mid-4th quarter.
But then that would mean less shots for Bryant. So I guess that strategy is out the window.
Bryant may want to win, but rest assured that he will not let anybody else be the focal point or the MVP of his team.
One last fact: If Bryant doesn't "lead" this super-talented group of players to the le this year, he is indeed a joke. I agree with Barkley - you put LeBron James on the Lakers, they win 75 games and cruise through the playoffs at 16-2. Not only that, but Gasol and Odom both make the all-star team, and maybe even that sapstic kid Bynum. Bron's vision and unselfishness would get Bynum 4-5 dunks a game.
