Maurice Clarett dreams of grasping gridiron glory again
By MJD
Michael Vick does not have the market cornered on athletes-turned-convicts who would like to turn athletes again. Former Denver Broncos draftee Maurice Clarett is sitting behind bars, dreaming of playing professional football again.
According to his blog, he's in good physical shape, and he certainly sounds inspired. Here's a snippet:I want to play. I am going to play somewhere. I cannot accept how things ended. I won’t accept how they ended. I am 220, rock solid. I am moving swift, running fast, and jumping high. My mind is right and my life is in order. I am 25 but I feel like I am 18. I am still young. Those who do support me deserve and want to see me out there playing again. I play with some pretty good athletes back here. In the penitentiary you could say basketball is football. Back here everything is aggressive. Everything is intense. I know I am an asset to someone’s locker room on so many levels. I’ve survived some of life’s worst struggles. I am not a statistic. I am still here and I am still living. I didn’t and won’t give up. I am a winner. I am optimistic. I am inspirational. I am alive. I want to play for the love and the respect. I want to play for the underdogs. I want to play because I know how to really well. Hopefully, they’ll open these gates soon and I’ll be able to get out on the field again. I am healthy mentally and physically. I am rock solid. I train hard. I go hard. I’m HERE.Yes, you are there. But the rest of us are out here, and at the moment, that's the problem.
It might not be the case much longer, though. It was September of 2006 when Clarett went in, and he agreed to a sentence of seven and a half years with a possible early release after three and a half years. Assuming the early release comes through, we're about 10 months away from Clarett walking out of the joint and trying to get back into football. He'll be 26.
One would think that the upstart UFL or Arena League would be more likely destinations than the NFL. Clarett was considered to be a reach even when the Broncos drafted him in the third round, and despite his intramural prison athletic prowess, it's still anybody's guess as to where his skills will be when he gets out.
If there is such a thing, Clarett right now is a poor man's Michael Vick. Like Vick, he will have done his time, paid his debt, and deserves another chance. But he was never the dazzling athlete Vick was, his crimes were universally condemned (unlike Vick's), and ESPN won't be assigning 13 reporters to cover Clarett's eventual release.
We'll see what happens, though. If he can play, chances are, he'll get an opportunity to do so somewhere.
Gracias, Newsday.

This guy is done, and has been done. If he couldn't make the Broncos roster back in 2007(Or was it 2006?), when he was somewhat in shape, I seriously doubt he'd make one now.
If he can show he can play like the article mentions the Arena Football League or UFL, and proves he still has it, then a team might pick him up. Otherwise, I don't think a team will pick him up. Would Goodell even allow him into the league? I think once he proves that his trouble with the law is behind him, and that he can still contribute, maybe, just maybe, a team will invite him to camp or sign him. However, that is one BIG maybe.
He is a con you know where he will go when he gets out right? LOL
Let me guess, Dallas or the Raiders?
Wow, I didn't see that one coming. Dallas is stacked at RB, there would be no room for him. MBIII, Felix Jones, and Tashard Choice, and MBIII was signed to a huge deal last year. Plus, Jerry and Stephen Jones have made it a point this year to get rid of the "troubled" players on the team.
Well he isnt out of jail yet and give them time they will have thugs once again. Vick will be the first.
You dont think so? I bet you Jones has already contacted him.
Nope. Not going to happen.Cowboys have no interest in Vick

ARLINGTON -- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he has no interest in suspended Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick, who was released from federal prison Wednesday after being convicted for financing a dogfighting conspiracy.
"(Tony) Romo is our guy," said Jones, who was in Arlington Thursday for the unveiling of a video board in the new Cowboys Stadium.
Romo is a two-time Pro Bowler who took over the starting job in 2006. His backups are Jon Kitna, who was acquired in the off-season trade with Detroit, and rookie fourth-round pick Stephen McGee of Texas A&M.
Vick began serving two months of home confinement on Thursday to complete a 23-month sentence.
I bet you he hasn't.
Clarett never proved himself on the pro level. At least Vick has done that much.

DMC, Bush, and Fargas is reason enoguh to not sign Clarett.
Yeah and I dream of grasping Jessica Alba's .
I met this guy like a month before he got arrested.
He was a nice guy
And he took a picture w/ me!
Only teams that will take a chance on these guys are the perennial bottom feeders. The teams where they don't have enough talent to win 3 games all year. Where they can't get a decent quarterback because nobody wants to play there. nobody wants to play there.
They got a chance playing for the hapless Bengels or Browns. Football futility at it's finest.
Was he in your 7/11?
Seriously...we have 3 great running backs in Tayshard Choice, Marion Barber, and Felix Jones. What the would we need with a bag like him? And the whole "Dallas Cowboys sign all criminals" thing is old. They are one of the lowest on the list of teams with criminals since 2000. Maybe you should pay more attention to current events, and stop being a hater. I've posted this before, but I guess I'll post it again..
So please...stop with the Dallas "Felons" thing...it's ridiculous..it's played out...and the truth is, it's bull .
Good God, this is old...we have 3 great RBs...has insulting the Cowboys become the "cool" thing to do? You're being pretty ignorant..I just posted this..but in case you missed it...

Throw in the Lions, what else do they have to lose??
No kidding. When I read your post, that just hit me. Wait a minute, he's in jail. How does he have a blog?Prisons are a joke. The guy has a blog. Good God!
What is he in for?
Tough to describe...It was straight Scarface type ...I'll let wikipedia do it...
In the early morning hours of August 9, 2006, Clarett was arrested in Columbus after he made an illegal U-turn and led the police on a chase in a sports utility vehicle reportedly belonging to his uncle. After driving over a police-mounted e strip, the chase ended in a nearby restaurant parking lot.[18] [19]
Police said they were forced to secure a cloth around Clarett's mouth after he allegedly spit at the officers and called them "######s" during the arrest. According to Columbus Police Sgt. Mike Woods, the officers discovered a katana, a loaded AK-47 variant and two other loaded handguns in his vehicle along with an open bottle of Grey Goose vodka.[20] The police requested that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and ExplosivesFederal gun laws. perform a trace on the firearms to determine if Clarett violated
The officers used mace to subdue Clarett after attempts to subdue him with a Taser proved ineffective because he was wearing kevlar body armor.

Wasn't he the guy who got cut for, among other things, "getting his Goose on" at practice?
