.....I hate thinking about it.
I got called to show up for Jury Duty on April 27th (my first time) and I'm not really familiar with the process or anything. But the attachement said if you have a valid reason for excuse write a letter and mail it back to us. I had school then and I had not time for jury duty (which was one of the valid reasons listed on the paper), so I wrote them a letter saying I have school and blah blah and if you can reschedule me during the period of June 1st to June 22nd, because I start Summer school on the 22nd of June. I haven't recieved a response from them, but I did recieve a response that I missed my April 27th date and I need to call them to sort things out. So should I call them and tell them that I sent you guys a letter but I recieved no reponse for my excuse or what? Because my friends said if you don't show up to jury duty you can get some consqeunces/implications and even a warrant for your arrest. So what do I do?
I also asked my prof. if I can get out of it and she said they normally let undergrad. students go from her experiences and she also said that one time they told the judge or whoever that her and her husband have their PhD's and are professors and they let them go.

I don't think you normally receive a response after you send you send in the form that says "I can't do it, I am a student (or I have a young child, or whatever). I mean, if your excuse was ok that is.
Call.
Don't show up and see what happens.
offer to buy them cookies and milk
I called once to re-schedule and never showed up because I forgot. It's been over a year now and have not heard from them.
Oh, you'll hear from them alright.![]()
Thanks for the link.
After reading that, I feel that my letter stating that I'm a student will suffice and I don't feel like I have to pursue this any longer. And I tried calling them 3 times and every button I press a computer just keeps on talking about procedures so. I'll try once more and if I can't get a hold of a human, then
EDIT: So I just talked to a lady and she said it doesn't matter if you're a student you have to show up and maybe the judge will pardon your leave, so you have to show up tommorow. So I don't know, don't really feel like going.

I would recommend that you go. If you get dismissed, as you are likely to, you will only be there for a few hours and then you are not required to serve again for a long time.
Who knows, you might even enjoy the experience.
I did.![]()
I got asked about 2 years ago and I just sent in one of my bills showing I am a student and I never had to worry about it again.
It seems to me that you would normally qualify for an exemption, but right now school is not in session for you so you are not in attendance.To claim an exemption you must complete the form on the jury summons, sign it, and return the form in person or by mail to the following address:
Amelia (Mellie) C. Cardona
Central Jury Bailiff
Bexar County Justice Center
300 Dolorosa / Basement
San Antonio, Tx 78205-3006
An exemption may be requested if the juror:
is over 70 years of age;
has legal custody of a child or children younger than 10 years of age and serving on the jury requires leaving the child or children without adequate supervision;
is a student of a public or private high school (must provide proof);
is a person enrolled and in actual attendance at an ins ution of higher education (must provide proof);
is an officer or an employee of the senate, the house of representatives, or any department in the legislative branch of the state government (statement must be notarized);
is the primary caretaker of a person who is an invalid, unable to care for himself (This exemption does not apply to health care workers);
has served as a juror in the district courts or county courts of Bexar County within the last 36 months; or
is a member of the United States military forces serving on active duty and deployed to a location away from the person's home station and out of the person's county of residence

Then don't go, dumbass. A warrant will be issued for your arrest. Maybe your mama can clean your room and do your chores while you sit in jail, boy.
E20 doesn't live in TX
Yeah I dont' live in TX, so I don't know the exact exemptions for Cali, but I'm starting summer school pretty soon so....
If you don't have anything to add except a ty flame then STFU you ing bag
lol chores, hilarious.

From what I could find Googling, California does not have the same exemptions that Texas has- not for students and not even for people who have sole responsibility for a young child. Looks like you have to show up. If you are on a panel, they may ask if anything will make it difficult for you to serve if the trial lasts for an extended period of time, and you can tell them when summer school starts.
Yeah most likely I will show up tommorow. Most of my friends that I've talked to say it's not bad and they're usually out in 3-4 hours or sometimes a little more. Plus I get 5 dollars.
Just watch the movie. You will find all the answers that you seek.
Funny, I sat in on jury selection today for a trial. Just say you're prejudiced for whatever reason, or bring up something that will get one of the lawyers to immediately disqualify you from the selection pool. That'll get you out early.
Kiss my ass, kid!
I've been summoned for Jury Duty more times than I'd like to count. Its like they REALLY want me to serve on a panel... If my name gets called I just say the person looks guilty. IDGAF if they are right there in front of me or what color they are, if it gets me released then your a guilty looking SOB right then and there.
E20...
You could be in trouble, and depending on the judge, spend a short time in jail.
Blowing off Jury Duty is a crime! Even though you sent a letter, you didn't get a dismissal back.
Good luck...
