Decade = 10 years. Yes it does.

I mean, I know what you are trying to say, but 1999 NBA Finals was exactly 10 years ago.

You just want to count the 2000's, and that's fine. Just clarifying
Stupid argument. OP didn't say "Best player in the last ten years", he said "player of the decade".

    70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's

This is a nitpicking argument just so you can sneak in Duncan's '99 le.

I was clarifying my position. A decade means 10 years, like it or not.

Move on, it was a misunderstanding.

By the way, JAG, aren't you a "Spurs fan" ? Shouldn't you be the one 'sneaking in Duncan's le'

Technically, this season isn't over yet You can't judge 08-09 yet.

    so 98-99 would be 10 seasons/years ago

Anyway, I really don't have an interest in arguing this. I am technically right, but I understand what the OP wanted now, so I am only counting the 2000's even though it's not finished.

the longer you take this the stupider you look. "The" decade implies the 00-09 years to everyone but you who just got flamed for trying to call out others on their math skills.

For all practical purposes, this season is over and you are arguing Shaq vs Duncan who are both done for the decade, so your other argument is worthless as well. Even if you want to argue Kobe, and he doesn't get a le, he will still have one more Finals appearance than Shaq.

I also thought I was on your ignore? How'd you read my post?

    hilarious.

That team was great. But wasn't AC Green the back-up C? The good thing about that team was all the 3 point ready shooters on the team. Harper, Shaw, Kobe, Fox, Horry, Rice
AC Green started, but hardly played more than the first five minutes. The 99-00 Lakers had an awesome roster; having a clutch as shooter and lockdown defender at the point in Ron Harper was a huge plus for them.

    Um...ever heard of Shaquille Oneal?

Four les and 6 finals appearances.

    Can Duncan compete with that?

Plus in his prime (during this decade) he was the most dominant player ever to play the game. Duncan was never as un-guardable as Shaq was.
what the does the most dominant player ever even mean? it's as if people have never heard of wilt or jordan or west or magic or julius or dream or the big o or any of the greats. call me crazy but i'd take magic in his prime over shaq since magic can actually make free throws and average 15 assists and 20 ppg.

True, and Shaq has 3 Finals MVPs and Duncan 2 Finals MVP over the last decade.
I dont think its as simple as that. Duncan was clearly still the man on that 2007 Championship team. He was by far the main man in every series where the real Finals were won, during the Western Conference.

Parker just happened to have a bigger mismatch in the Spurs easiest series of the playoffs, and was awarded the Finals MVP.

Shaq on the other hand, was clearly second fiddle on the last of his championships.

I think theres a pretty big difference there.

Either way, as always with Shaq and Duncan, i dont have a problem with calling it a tie.

I still think the Finals MVP should be changed to Playoffs MVP, obviously going to the guy from the winning team, expecially with how piss weak the East has been outside of Detroit and Boston the last decade.

Its not unforseeable that a guy like Lamar Odom or Andrew Bynum could step up against un undersized team and put up 20-10 in a 4 game sweet and be awarded Finals MVP - while Kobe is double and triple teamed and defended well - despite being the man throughout the playoffs.

    That would be a crime.

I don't really look at it as "the decade"..I look at it as the "Post-Jordan" era, just like I looked at the previous era as the "Magic-Bird" era..

Kobe winning a le this year puts him on the same level and in the argument vs. Shaq and Duncan IMO, but he doesn't have enough of an argument to put him ahead of either..the only argument in his favor would be quoting the media, but the problem with that is that they don't actually make an argument for him..based on accolades, impact, stats, and winning, you'd have to put Duncan and Shaq ahead of him..

if Kobe wins the le next year, you would have to give him a solid argument against both, possibly ahead of them..the problem with giving Kobe credit for having "4 rings"(if he wins this year) is that people are ignoring the fact that 3 of them were as the sidekick..YES, Kobe was a huge part of those teams, nobody denies that..but it's obviously much easier to do your job when you're always single-covered, and there's a 340 pound man with 2 or 3 guys covering him at a time..

he needs to win 2 as a #1 to get in the argument, it's only fair..as of right now, it's a tough decision between Shaq and Timmy..

Shaq in his prime was the better player, although I really don't think it's a big gap..a lot of people forget how great Tim was in his prime..also, if you gave him Kobe Bryant on his team, he might have looked even better..Shaq still gets the credit for peak though, he would always have at least 2 big men covering him, and sometimes even 3..his 1999-2000 season might be the most dominant in NBA history..

Duncan has been more consistent though..he's clearly been better than Shaq since at least the 2004-2005 season IMO..

    #1- Shaquille O'Neal/Tim Duncan
    #3- Kobe Bryant
    #4- Kevin Garnett

if Kobe wins the le this year and wins it again next year, #1 would be a toss-up between the 3, and probably even leaning towards Kobe since that would be 3 straight NBA Finals appearances and back-to-back les as the #1..

Damn people...it's really easy to figure out.
Just give each contender a point scale total for each achievement.

If they made an All-NBA 1st team, they get 3 points. If it's 2nd team, they get 2, and if it's 3rd team they get 1.
Same for All-NBA Defense with the higher placement getting the most points.
Equal placements for MVP's and Finals MVP's

That should cover it. Since All-Star Games are a Popularity contest as opposed as choosing those who are really worthy, I'll choose to skip it...UNLESS Y'ALL LIKE IT MEANS SOMETHING.

Of Course The Finals MVP will make a determinant point for this season and that, as of this posting, has yet to be decided. But,should the LAL win, it would most like be Kobe Bryant.

Just add up the years, include 99 or don't and then you'll know.

The one qualifier with that breakdown is that on those all NBA teams and all defense teams there are two spots for forwards and one spot for centers. Might not make a difference but it could.

For the 2000's, as it stands RIGHT NOW, it's :

    1) Shaq
    2) Duncan
    3) Kobe
I agree with you, I'll put Shaq in front of Duncan by a hairline. But it might change in a week.IMO
