"The August getaway is Bush's 49th trip to his cherished ranch since taking office and Tuesday was the 319th day that Bush has spent, entirely or partially, in Crawford -- roughly 20 percent of his presidency to date, according to Mark Knoller, a CBS Radio reporter known for keeping better records of the president's travel than the White House itself. Weekends and holidays at Camp David or at his parents' compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, bump up the proportion of Bush's time away from Washington even further." "Until now, probably no modern president was a more famous vacationer than Ronald Reagan, who loved spending time at his ranch in Santa Barbara, Calif. According to an Associated Press count, Reagan spent all or part of 335 days in Santa Barbara over his eight-year presidency -- a total that Bush will surpass this month in Crawford with 3 1/2 years left in his second term." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...080201703.html Were there any complaints from Repugs, conservatives, and bubbas?

That's exactly right. And that's exactly why people like Boutons crack me up when they stick up for the Obama's of the world.

Well, I think President Obama is a joke, but he is the president, and the protection and costs come with the job. Do you people seriously think he should put his personal life on hold?

Please, don't act like a liberal puke. This is not something to complain about.

I don't see the matter with criticizing how the presidency has become this ins utionalized potentate living the life of luxury, as well as how no president is allowed much of a chance to go off script. Still, the American myth is that the president is just another fellow citizen, one who left his farm or his shop and headed to the District of Columbia to serve the public. Right.

Yeah, the costs come of protection come with the job and he'll get critized for every little thing because that is what WE do. While I think Bush was an idiot he was still my President. If you watch FoxNews they will find fault in everything Obama does and that is what they do.

I knew I had super powers...........but now I must figure out how to utilize them for my own well-being.
    How about your mother?
She's fine, thanks for asking. I always thought you really did care, now I know you do.
Do you, less, still want to fight me?
I guess, should we meet by the flagpole after you get out of recess?

That is how it used to be. Most people gave up their money to be the president. Presidents like Adams and Andrew Jackson were borderline poor because they spent their lives in public service. Then they had to pay for most of their expenses in the white house.

Kickbacks? You don't know what you are talking about. Andrew Jackson, in terms of corruption, was one of the best presidents we ever had.

He actually went and paid off our national debt. Something nobody has done, before him or since him.

Newsflash: If Obama took his wife to Taco Bell, the bill would probably be in the thousands when you factor in fuel for those 20,000 pound behemoth bulletproof Suburbans, communications, Secret Service, etc.

It's expensive to move the POTUS and the FLOTUS around in a secure fashion. Get over it.

He told people not to go out?

I'd like to see this quote.
    He told people this

“We’re going to do something to strengthen the banking system," Mr. Obama said, “You are not going to be able to give out these big bonuses until you pay taxpayers back. You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers' dime. There's got to be some accountability and some responsibility.”

So telling CEO's of corporations that took federal money to stop using funds for extravagant things equates to telling Joe Schmo not to go visit Las Vegas?

The governor of Nevada was talking about how much those sentences hurt Las Vegas and that it cost 100's of millions of dollars. What the ? The recession is what hurt Las Vegas you dumb . Not the words of the president. It's not our fault that Las Vegas is a city that put all it's eggs in the expendable income basket.

On a side note... Glenn Beck was saying how great it is that Nevada can have such low taxes and is siphoning off all of Cali's rich people.

Does he not realize that the reason the taxes are so low is because they are assuaged by taxes on pros ution, gambling, and other vices?

Glad to know he's totally for the legalization and taxation of hookers and gambling across the entire nation. I totally agree.
