    Who's next, TO??

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4240457

Is there going to be a Adam "Pacman" Jones sequel in Dallas? According to a published report, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently said he's considering bringing the controversial cornerback back, although he calls it a long shot.

Reached by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram after the George Strait concert than opened the new Cowboys stadium on Saturday night, Jones asked the reporter: "Would you beat me up too bad if I brought back Adam?"

The Cowboys released Pacman Jones in February. Jones was suspended for six games by the NFL after an alcohol-related scuffle in October with a team-provided bodyguard at a Dallas hotel.

In the Star-Telegram report, Jones said he now blames the fight on the bodyguard. He also reportedly said that he's not worried about any off-the-field issues with Pacman Jones.

The cornerback came to Dallas after being suspended for the entire 2007 season following multiple off-field incidents while with the Tennessee ans. The Cowboys acquired him in a trade during the draft in April, and commissioner Roger Goodell cleared him to play at the end of the preseason.

Expected to give the Cowboys a boost on defense and special teams, Jones had 31 tackles and no interceptions in his nine games (six starts). He averaged only 4.5 yards on his 21 punt returns, with a long of 18 yards.

However, in the Star-Telegram report, Jones said that Pacman Jones graded out as the Cowboys' best cornerback.

Before coming to Dallas, Jones was arrested six times and involved in 12 instances requiring police intervention after Tennessee drafted him in the first round in 2005.

The Cowboys traded for him anyway, despite the 2007 suspension.

They're not too deep at the CB position. They traded away their starting CB to the Lions, and it left them with 2 really unproven guys to be the starters. It would help give them depth at the CB position, so football wise it would be a smart move. However, personality wise, it goes against everything that the Cowboys have said they were doing this year. If they're going to bring in Pacman, they never should have let go of TO.

He is probably the only one at Valley Ranch.

Its not a smart football move if he can't contribute because he is in trouble again. , when he was on the field he didn't do much except run east-west on punt returns.

    Personality-wise, I agree.

I think Jones is just posturing, giving the star-telegram something to write about to keep Cowboy fans and media personnel talking and thinking Cowboys during the offseason. The way Jerry sees it he doesn't have to advertise to get his brand on the minds of the consumers - all he has to do is make a comment like this and ESPN is pumping Cowboys into millions of homes almost instantly.

My second thought is if Pacman graded out as the best CB on the team, how f'd up is the Cowboys player grading system?

    And he would be correct.

That's true. As of right now though, he is able to contribute. If he gets into trouble, then yes it would be a bad football move. I agree with the punts, but when you lack serious depth at the CB position, then it's something to consider. I think Whisky Dog is correct. I think Jerry is just doing this to keep the Cowboys in the news.

I disagree. I think Newman is extremely underrated. Injuries have bothered him the last couple of seasons, but I think he is still a valuable CB. Last season wasn't a very good one, and statistics don't really show the job he does. He rarely gets thrown to so the interceptions don't show up in the stats. He does a great job on his guy for the majority of the time.

    JJ backs off:

There won't be an Adam "Pacman" Jones sequel in Dallas.

Through team spokesman Rich Dalrymple, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shot down a report that he was considering bringing the controversial cornerback back to the team, saying in a statement: "I have no plans to bring Adam back."

Jerry Jones was reacting to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram report where he was quoted as saying that he was mulling bringing Pacman Jones back to the team.

Surely that was a joke. It certainly reads that way. I can't imagine it happening even if Pacman wasn't by far the worst player on a terrible secondary last year.

Jerry's gigantic ego just won't allow him to go more than 24 hrs. without calling attention to himself. Well Jerry, it's your money, do as you damn well please, but if you never win another Super Bowl you'll know who to blame!!!

There's not a single underrated player on Dallas. Everyone talks about how talented, deep, amazing that team is, the truth is Dallas simply isn't that talented!

If every player on Dallas deserved the hype they got Dallas would go 19-0.

Dallas is very talented and proved that two seasons ago going 13-3 and then in the first part of last season. That is what is frustrating. The team as a whole underachieves and that starts with the Head Coach.

I disagree. Newman doesn't get hyped at all. I also disagree with the notion that Dallas isn't very talented. Take off the hate filled glasses and look with an objective view. They have talent, they've just underachieved big time.

IRVING, Texas - Maybe it was just the euphoria involved in the grand opening of a brand new $1.15 billion stadium. Whatever the case, Jerry Jones apparently wants to take back his Adam "Pacman" Jones musings.

After reportedly leaving the door open for the troubled cornerback's return following Saturday night's George Strait concert at Cowboys Stadium, Jerry Jones said through a team spokesman on Monday "I have no plans to bring Adam back." Warrick Robinson, the cornerback's agent, also said he hadn't heard from the team.

It was rather curious that Jerry Jones would admit he's considering re-signing the free agent cornerback, whom the Cowboys officially released back on Feb. 9. Much of the work the team has done this off-season has been to remove locker room distractions, and make way for the team's promising younger players. As of last Thursday's Organized Team Activities practice, the Cowboys owner and general manager seemed pretty confident about the young cornerbacks on his team, raving about the likes of Orlando Scandrick, Mike Jenkins and Alan Ball. Up in his suite following the inaugural event at the new stadium, though, Jerry Jones apparently was wondering aloud if there was a way to strengthen the position.

"Would you beat me up too bad if I brought back Adam?" the Cowboys owner reportedly asked a writer from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, saying he was considering re-signing the oft-troubled 25-year-old cornerback, though acknowledging such a move was a long shot. Jerry Jones said the former Tennessee ans first-round pick had graded out best among the Cowboys cornerbacks in his nine games last season.

Shortly after being released, Adam Jones made it known he expected to play in 2009, and said he believed he could even be back with the Cowboys. Though he hasn't been a member of the team, the cornerback hasn't been a stranger, either. He was seen chatting with secondary coach Dave Campo at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, and has visited the club's Valley Ranch headquarters. While Robinson said he has received interest from a few places around the league, Adam Jones hasn't visited any teams this off-season, though he has donned a uniform for e TV's Pros vs. Joes, sparking a physical confrontation with a contestant.

The Cowboys acquired Adam Jones in a trade just before last April's NFL Draft, and signed him to a low-risk contract. Knowing they couldn't trust the ex-West Virginia star, they spent two draft picks, including a first-rounder, on cornerbacks that year. As it turned out, their premonition about Adam Jones was correct. After becoming a starter during the early part of the season, he was suspended six games for an October altercation with his team-supplied body guard in a hotel bathroom.

Even if coaches did believe Adam Jones played the best of all the cornerbacks last season, he wasn't a difference-maker, finishing the season without an interception. He was expected to be a threat on punt returns as well, but averaged just 4.5 yards per attempt. In January, the Cowboys announced they would release Jones, soon after being notified of a ESPN report about his alleged involvement in a shooting outside an Atlanta nightclub while he was suspended in 2007. No legal consequences have resulted from the report, though Jones has had his share of those, with six arrests since coming into the league in 2005.

Given his unreliable nature, Adam Jones arguably slowed the progress of the team's young corners last season.

"That was a difficult situation, obviously, when you're not sure what your lineup is going to be from week to week," secondary coach Dave Campo said after an OTA practice last Thursday. While the fifth-rounder Scandrick held the same job on the nickel all season long, Jenkins' playing time was more sporadic because he often sat behind Adam Jones.

"Sometime you come in as a first-round rookie, you come in and you're not quite sure what to expect," Campo said. "Pacman being in and out, (Jenkins) being in and out, that's a little tough on a guy."

While Scandrick was the more impressive of the two during their first NFL season, the Cowboys have high hopes for both. After cutting Adam Jones they traded Anthony Henry to Detroit, clearing a path for one of the second-year corners to emerge as a starter opposite Terence Newman. Both Scandrick and Jenkins will receive a lot of playing time no matter who wins the job, but the battle has already begun.

Coaches say both players have improved over the off-season. Both are gifted with plenty of athleticism for the position, but in their first season Scandrick just seemed to be the more comfortable of the two.

"Orlando Scandrick is a real natural player," said Wade Phillips. "He has a great feel for what's going on. He came off the field during the game and said, 'Hey, they are doing this. They are running this route. They are trying to get me to do this.' Those kinds of things some players don't naturally have; he has."

Jenkins has earned his share of praise as well.

"Everything that I'm seeing from his work in the off-season . . . I think that will translate into more of a role on the team," Jerry Jones said. "He continues to improve. Every time you look up, he's making plays. He should make a real step forward (to) where our expectations were when we drafted him in the first round."

If the latest indications are correct, and the Cowboys roll into training camp with their cornerback situation as is, it will be one of the most intriguing positions to watch this summer.

"I think it's going to be a battle because they're both very compe ive and they're good young players," Campo said. "I think Mike or Scandrick are going to accept whatever role is done with them, and we don't know exactly what that is right now, but it's going to be a battle."

At least that much is certain.

Yes, I'm the biggest blind homer on these forums. Give me a break. The Cowboys do have a lot of talent. Only someone who isn't being objective or is blinded by hatred can't see. You only have contempt and hatred for the Cowboys. Every post or thread that has been about the Cowboys you spew negative bull . I haven't posted nearly enough on the NFL forum for you to even suggest that I'm a blind homer. Get over your hatred, it's blinding YOU!
