I liked it a lot, but it definitely isn't as good as some people make it out to be.
i had never seen this before, and started watching it the other day.
i was quite disappointed, considering how great some people said it was. pacino's accent at times was extremely obnoxious and seemed wayyyyy overdone. i wonder if the extreme violence is what was really captivating to some about the movie, because i thought it was kinda boring actually. i couldnt even finish it cuz it seemed like just a load of violence, cussing, and an annoying overdone accent. i understand that its supposed to capture a realism of what really had been going on in the criminal world, and i have no problem with movies that are like that (for instance i love The Departed, which has its share of violence, cussing, and accents), but i coudnt get into it just because it seemed boring to me, and more focused on showing a load of violence and drugs than anything.
am i alone in my thoughts on the movie, and should give it another shot? or did others feel similarly as well?

I watched it over the weekend and it is still one of my favorite movies. I think if you saw it when it first came out it will be better since at the time it was the and I still think it is one of Pacino's better performances.
That goes for any movie.
Like I love "Apocalypse Now" while others hate it.
When the movie came out in 1983, it was well beyond it's time.
Honestly, I've never seen anything but the last scene, but I always make a point to see that part whenever I see it in the TV listing.
That movie was off the hook ...

once the "urban" movement got a hold of it, it lost it's luster with me.
Once is enough for me.
I like it.![]()
I didn't see it till a year ago, it was pretty average.
The Departed is leaps and bounds better than Scarface.
What the.....
You can't watch the movie like you're watching an Oscar winner, it's a cult classic movie thy is awesome for it's one liners and over the top scenes.
It's a very typical Brian De Palma film, and very cutting edge for it's time. BDP gets a bum rap from just about everyone these days, but he had his moments of genius. I mean really, Michael Caine as a transves e?![]()
The older posters probably appreciate it more than the youngsters just like the youngsters appreciate today's movies and music more than I do. I watch classic movies and listen to classic rock all the time. I'm an old fart.
yeah and bohemian rhapsody lost it's luster with me when wayne's world got a hold of it, so no reason to call sharpton. geez.
I hear ya...Once I heard Eminem, Rap lost it's luster but don't try to sugar coat it you bas .
Great movie, and it's only overrated by people who haven't seen the many superior crime movies like Godfather II & Goodfellas. Anyone who has seen these flicks can see the many flaws in Scarface.
that's mighty white of you.
I've watched all of them and I like them all. To with the flaws. There are so many damn film critics in here.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
