The le was HIGHLY misleading. I thought this was going to be about his weiner... thankfully, it was not.
Ok...so I know I'm a little late with this review, but I just saw this movie on DVD. It's by the same people who made The Pursuit of Happyness. Wow, this was a great movie. Will Smith is a damn good actor. Especially if you compare him to his beginning days with Fresh Prince.
Anyone else see this movie? If you haven't, I highly recommend it. It's a little slow at parts, but the end is really good and overall it keeps your attention if you're patient.![]()

Yes, I loved this movie, the only thing is I wish it wasn't so mysterious. I wouldn't have done it that way. But it was very good.
Slow and predictable.
I laughed at the end bathtub scene and I'm guessing that wasn't the response they were looking for.
This one is on my Blockbuster queue pretty much just for Rosario Dawson. I've heard both good and bad about it, but much of what I've seen looks cheesy.
I thought it was good. There is some great acting (not so much Will Smith although he wasn't bad) - but Rosario Dawson was fairly amazing as was the Hispanic woman (have no clue who she is). Yeah - I saw the ending coming a mile away but I still thought it was pretty good.
I thought the scene in the very beginning where Will Smith's character calls 911 and reports his own suicide was extremely powerful and wonderfully acted by Smith. That scene was some of the best acting ive seen from Will Smith.
i'm still wondering who gave him the list of candidates though.
I heard that it's depressing. I have no interest in seeing it.
I was going to watch this movie.![]()
Its not much of a spoiler - they disclose that right at the opening.
I enjoyed the movie. I like movies that have strong messages that incorporate the fact that even heroes struggle.
There is still a debate about what the le "7 Pounds" is referring to. I have yet to hear a definitive answer.
Some say it has to do with the old adage of "A pound of flesh". Others say it refers to the soul leaving the body when you die and the reduction of weight that many cannot explain...there are a lot of different theories.
It is in reference to a pound of flesh as in the Merchant of Venice. Because of the central feeling he has (and I don't want to give too much away here) it makes perfect sense if you're familiar with the play.
I am familiar, and that is why I listed that. But from what I have read, many have debated that is the actual story behind the le. Even the actors and directors have not come out and said this to be true.
It does make perfect sense in light of the phrase and the context of the movie, but it has not been confirmed. It is the most logical conclusion, I just wonder why the writer or director or actors have not confirmed? Maybe they have and I have not found it.
That weight is supposed to be 21 grams, which is the le of another movie. It's also BS.
I thought 7 lbs was the total weight of the parts he donated?
yea um gotta disagree on this one. Unless you see a ton of movies (like me) and are just experimenting around I could recommend tons of movie before this. I didn't mind it was depressing too much because I can handle a depressing movie sometimes, but that combined with the slow pacing of the film just made it unappealing to me. I would never, ever watch it again unless there was a nice sum of cash, booze, and a hottie for the payoff.
In that case, don't watch Benjamin Button either then.
I thought it would be a lot better than it was. I dont know why people think its that depressing, Marley and Me was 10000x sadder.
Ya I know, I was just listing some of the stuff I read, but my initial thought was the Merchant of Venice reference.
I was reading all kinds of crazy explanations from people. 21 grams was a good movie as well. Just cannot find any confirmation.
Call me stupid, but I thought the same exact thing...
Oh and it's definitely a slow movie to get into...I had to see it over a 2 day span, but I thought it started to really pick up towards the end.
Rosario Dawson is in it?
What's it rated?
Boobs?
That's the only reason it's in my Blockbuster queue.
You pretty much ignored the only pertinent questions in my post.
