Sorry we tried to make your whiny hypothetical relevant.
Maybe because you brought her up, D?
Sorry we tried to make your whiny hypothetical relevant.
This is yet another episode of phony outrage by the right. Have any of you on the right ever heard of the story about the boy who cried wolf?
Letterman never crossed any line. I guess that's why he's bending over backward to apologize.
Why wouldn't it be? Public figures have to assume they're gonna be made fun of if they, or anybody close to them does something that is seen as out of the ordinary.
PT's get made fun of. Don't you remember when Britney Spears' sister got prego at 16? Everybody was making fun of her.
He started losing money because of phony outrage from phonies.
Don't ever become a public figure, Darrin -- you're too much of a pussy.
How so?
I brought up his mother as an example of ANY ING FAMILY MEMBER.
You are what you eat, head.
And we said it was fair game.
-- though not funny in that your hypothetical jokes wouldn't have made much sense.
Carter's brother was never made fun of. Clinton's brother was never made fun of. Bush's daughters were never made fun of.
It's only natural to assume that Palin's daughter should never be made fun of.
Now that's funny!
If only he could work in Obama's grandmother somehow. Then he'd be cooking with fire.
forgot one. fixed.
I think letterman should go for the re ed baby jokes next.
He's too busy having sex with her as a pro athlete.
Yes, you did. That was my point. That was why other posters seized on it: because you brought it up.
It is a little funny that you have demanded an explanation for others' logical and straightforward replies to you. When you got the explanation, you tried to claim there was some subtler, abstract point that we all missed.
What was that point, BTW? That comedians shouldn't be allowed to be tacky? That they should answer to tact and *political correctness*?
Not that it's that important, but mother <> grandmother.
As to your other points, sure, all things are fair game, but the comedian must be willing to take the heat if he can dish it out.
Anyone remember why Bill Maher's show, Politically Incorrect, was taken off ABC?
According to you, it is.So you really don't have a problem with the jokes? As to your other points, sure, all things are fair game, but the comedian must be willing to take the heat if he can dish it out.
Anyone remember why Bill Maher's show, Politically Incorrect, was taken off ABC?
Because he suggested that hijacking airliners and crashing them into buildings might require a modi of physical courage?
BTW, Darrin, was Maher wrong about that?
I don't disagree, but that's not all he said.
"We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly"
This is where all this grandmother nonsense came up.
I won't address this again. It's getting old.
Again, sorry your "joke" wasn't relevant.
Or funny.
We tried.
How did you get Obama's mom buy your story about playing pro ball?
Another unfortunate part of American politics. Never mind actually discussing the "issues" (of course, what passes for a public discussion of the issues in the US consists of uninformed mayonnaise eaters confirming their ignorance) and critiquing the arguments you disagree with. Nay, we must thoroughly demonize political opponents beyond all recognition.
Character assassination and family member attacks of presidents are nothing new. Those go back to the start of the Republic. If someone enters the arena, they should be prepared for that sort of thing. Still, that's a rather lousy justification.
Did darrin joke about Obamas mother?
And then Maher's network showed it's pussillanimity by yielding to the hysterical herd and firing Maher for his controversial (but not patently false) observation, rather than defending Maher and the uber-American tradition of free expression."We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly"
Your point?
