Those sound the most realistic to me.
No he could not play SF with any kind of success.
Those sound the most realistic to me.
Parker/Hill/ FA
Mason/Manu
Duncan/Sheed/Gist
Gooden/ Bowen/Williams/
Oberto/Mahimni/Thomas
sheed/thomas/bourosis
duncan/gooden/mihinmi
ariza/sam young/gist
mason/manu/hairston
parker/hill
draft:sam young, omri cassipi, victor claver, sergio llull
Your Dream (and possible) Spurs Roster next season
Parker/V-span/Hill
Mason/Ginobili/Hill
Duncan/Ian/Oberto
Boursoursis/KT
R Jefferson/Bowen/Gist
Sign IBS for part of the MLE, sign Vspan for the LLE or the rest of the MLE, trade Bowen, Oberto and Bonner for Richard Jefferson (trade works as per Real GM), Finley retires, Bowen and Oberto get bought out and sign back for vet minimum, Gist signs for minimum. Spurs pay the luxury tax, but it is definitely doable.
Realistic:
Parker/Hill (Badass/control tempo/Scoring, defense/energy)
Manu/Mason/Hairston (Badass/control tempo, Scoring, defense/energy/athlete)
Bowen/Gist/Williams (Experience/teaching, defense/youth/rebounds, point forward/scoring/energy)
Duncan/Gooden (enough said, scoring/rebounding/energy)
Mahinmi/Kurt/? (rebounding/youth/scoring/defense?, experience/defense)
I know everyone on this board knows their abilities, but i just thought i would include them to shine a light on what we might need and what they can/cant provide judging from what i listed. You are welcome to correct any if im off.
? = Im not sure, but either a solid sleeper (i hope) draft pick (bourosis/danny green/kravstov) or a good pickup off a trade or FA (kaman/camby/odom (lets be honest, Ariza is going nowhere) draft pick)
BUMP
spursbird got owned !!!!![]()
DAMN NEAR right on the head, and we didn't even have to give up Mase! How great was that trade? How great was your prediction? I know at the time you just thought of it, but it happened and we have MASE STILL!
Now lets watch them go out and try to get #5! GO SPURS!![]()
Wow..great call mfanatic...and LOL spursbird.
Thank you...you definitely made me smile.
wow buttsR4rebounding, you definitely deserve some spurstalk cash for that haha
Great, I need a new car!
Parker/Hill/Vaughn (or Finley, but Vaughn probably wouldnt take anyones min)
Mason/Manu/Hairston
Jefferson/Bowen/Williams
Duncan/Mahimni/Gist - SF/PF
Sheed/Bonner/FA - PF/C
THats 14 players right there, I know Sheed is somewhat of a pipedream becuz of all the crap he's talkin, but if we could get him, it would be a perfect fit. Most of the pieces Im suggesting are pretty cheap (except Sheed; even cheaper if Fin retires) and it leaves the front office with the option of drafting sum Euro talent that they can afford to stash away (Casspi, Claver, Tepic, Lull, Nando etc) or drafting a project collegiate player.
looks pretty set now
Parker, Hill
Mason, Manu, Hairston
Jefferson, Manu, Hairston
Bonner, MLE, Gist
TD, Mahimni
as long as we throw the MLE at a Big, I couldn't ask for much more.
and if we get anything useful from the draft:![]()
even w/ the jefferson trade, if bonner is still starting by the opener, we are in trouble. that MLE big better be good enough to start over the ginger.
parker/hill
jefferson/udoka
duncan/mahinmi--or another quality back up C/PF if he's too injured
bonner/thomas --or another quality rebounding big if thomas doesn't make his way back
manu/mason
no one ever gives Bonner any credit, he works so well on that starting unit. he plays solid D, stretches the floor on offense, giving TP and now Jefferson more room around the basket to do their thing, and when he's confident, he's one of the top 3 point shooters in the league, and even has some moves.
then if the MLE goes to Gooden, our second unit will have a potent scoring punch as well. IMO active, athletic guys like Gooden and Mahinmi will complement Manu on that second unit nicely.
guys who can take one of Manu's crazy passes when the Defense is almost beaten, almost in disarray, and make one quick move and finish strong at the hoop. in that respect, Jefferson should also play well with Manu. the slow old guys we've had the past few years could never finish those plays, sadly, the best at it was usually Fabs, with his quick awkward layups.
Ilikee
Minutes:
Come payoff time I'd like to see a lot of minutes for Mason and RJ, they seem to be the type of player that needs to be out there a lot to be at their best, while TP and Manu are instant offense, but they lose effectiveness if they're out there too long
TP: . . 34 -- Hill: 14
Mason:. 38
---- Manu : 28
RJ: . . 38
Bonner: 24 -- Gooden/MLE: 20
TD: . . 36 -- Mahinmi: 8
that adds up I think, with about 8 minutes of small-ball
I've always prefered smaller playoff rotations, your best people need to be out there. 8 minutes for Ian to beat some people up and foul out and otherwise this is a nice 8 man rotation with flexibility and variety.
on that note, I'm also a fan of using roster spots 10-15 on prospects rather than useless vaughn-like veterans, I hope we fill out our 10-15 with guys from the draft, the Toros, and overseas. great teams often have an important player of whom nothing much was ever expected, but you can't get that if you don't have a few young prospects on your roster.
then if one of them plays good enough to necessitate playoff minutes, all the better, if not, no harm done, at least you know what you have. I'm so sick of year after year having all this phantom young talent that can never seem to make it onto the floor for us. get them out there and see whether or not we have something.

Jaja I've changed my mind due to DA trade:
Parker/ Hill
Manu/ Mason/ Williams
Jefferson/ Gist / Bowen (to mentor and have his final year)
Duncan/ Gooden/
Wallace/ Mahinmi/ (Oberto or Thomas)
Note: I dont know what the draft can bring; if its a contributor to the wing then I doubt bowen coming back unless he is willing to take a mutombo-esque role this season with the rockets.
I wonder what can a deal of Bonner + Finley + picks could bring.
If everything came together in the best possible way this summer, maybe:
C- Splitter, Wallace
Pf- Duncan, Mahinmi, Gist
Sf- Jefferson, Casspi, Bowen
Sg- Mason, Ginobili, Hairston
Pg- Parker, Hill, Williams
Where Rasheed and the Pistons agree (who knows why) to a sign-and-trade for Bonner and maybe a 2nd rounder. Mahinmi could actually play 4/5, Gist 3/4. Ideally Wallace doesn't mind coming off the bench with Manu to spread out the vets with the new guys.
assuming we trade Bonner + Finley for cash
C - Sheed/Mahinmi
PF - Duncan/Gooden
SF - Jefferson/Bowen (if he returns)/Gist
SG - Mason/Manu/Hairston
PG - Parker/Hill
That would be too perfect, but there's no way the Spurs can have both Gooden AND Sheed unless one of them takes a serious paycut...even with the cash they could receive from a potential trade.
