I wonder if Monroe is talking about a "major deal in the days, or hours, before the draft" because he heard something.

Guys question; could we sign Udoka to a one year deal just for the sake of having him as a nice trade asset?

IIRC, he would have to give the team permission to trade him if he signed a one year deal.

I'm fine with Udoka as a fall back option. I thought he played well at the end, and he knows the defensive scheme.

OTOH, y'all do realize that Hairston is no longer a Spur? The Spurs thought Hairston < Williams. As a FA Hairston is somebody to look at with a 10-day contract.

If the Spurs were to make a major deal in the days, or hours, before the draft, it would not be a shock. Udoka's expiring contract might even become a bargaining chip in such a deal.
uh? Ime's contract can still be included in a deal?? or is Monroe wrong about this one?

however, the question is, when we can speak about a "major deal" done by the Spurs. considering they don't deal much, even less real big deals, a major deal might be everything that moves more than 3 million in salary.
however, talking about possible major deals, the Wizards could in fact make much sense.
reportedly they are desperately looking for deals.

(a deal that comes to mind: Manu+Mason+Bonner(or Fab)+Splitter rights for Butler+Stevenson+Songaila+5th pick. and no, I don't want Manu to be traded!)

Monroe is wrong about this one. The most the Spurs could do is a sign and trade if someone wanted to use the Spurs' Early Bird Rights, but that's about it. I don't think that's very likely.

    Ime is done.

I'd rather see some young guy there. It can be Hairston or any other young player

    85. When can't a player be traded? Can players be given "no-trade" clauses in their contracts?
    ....
In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following cir stances:
    ....
    * When the trading deadline has passed. Teams are free to make trades again once their season has ended, but cannot trade players whose contracts are ending or could end due to an option or ETO.

I don't expect to see Udoka back, especially if Finley decides to come back, but who knows, the Spurs might trade Finley if he comes back. But, then that would leave us with virtually no wing options besides maybe someone like Marcus Williams, and Malik Hairston, if the Spurs decide to sign him.

I'm just gonna wait it out, and whatever happens, happens. For some reason, I have a feeling they will a make some pretty big moves, compared to the minor ones they've made in recent years.

Take it easy Ime. He was a hard worker, but lacked any real consistency. When he did make shots or make plays it seemed to come when it didn't really matter and then the moments when it did matter he dissapeared..

Why wouldn't we go with Hairston. He is way younger, he will cost the Spurs much less, and we haven't seen his ceiling yet. Basically saying we have outs with this situation so I don't see Ime coming back.

The Spurs let Hairston walk this season in favor if Marcus Williams, so that should tell you something, but who knows, maybe they just did it because they needed a better shooter.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hairston is back at camp this year.

thanks, that's what I thought. still was a bit confused because I couldn't believe a writer who has nothing more to cover than NBA doesn't know such things.
    unbelievable ignorance.

this was really a strange move, if the Spurs do think about bringing Hairston back for next season.he would have been a restricted FA this summer, if they didn't cut him for the (not used) Williams. now he is unrestricted and would have some good reasons to accept an offer from another team.

It was rumoured Wolves were after Williams so the Spurs just locked him. I fully expect they'll both be back with us for training camp.

Last year in the playoffs he had a few good games, but this year he has basically sucked. I think he had two weeks of solid basketball. Not good enough to take up a spot on the roster in my opinion.
