Well I guess it's just my belief that Thomas still has something left in the tank.
But either way, the acquisition of Jefferson is awesome.
In the perfect scenario, the next step would to trade Mason and Bonner for a big like Collison or Foster.

I've always thought that his 3 point shooting was his weakness. Yet the stats show that he has improved. Last season was his best year, 0.397.
Hahahaha I just posted a question 5 minutes ago on ESPN Chad Ford Chat before he started and he started the chat by saying...hold on...breaking trade...one sec...
and what is it?! the spurs RJ trade. so it looks like this could be possibly happening as we speak
heres link to the chat: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/27094
44% from the field and 40% from the three-point line while the first option on the Bucks? Only 2.0 turnovers per game as a first option?
He has slowed down from his prime but he's a freakin' good player to get in a salary dump.
Also, with the Nets Jefferson played quite a bit at the 2 when Carter was out.
And I'd much rather see him at the smallball 4 than Finley.
And this past season, he shot more than he usually does too. So that's a plus.
But can he still dunk?
Let's just hope that George Hill isn't involved in the actual deal.
But I'd still do it with Hill involved.
This trade is an example of properly leveraging expiring contracts to acquire a talented player from a bad team.
The Spurs have filled one of the two major holes in their lineup.
Satisfying.
Hopefully we'll see Finley opt-in and be trade bait so that he can retire - or he decides to opt-out and retire. I love the guy and appreciate what he's helped us with - but he's really pushing it.
Jefferson also fits better financially for the Spurs.
The question now becomes how do you add to a Big rotation of Tim, Ian, and Bonner.
If Finley stays the Spurs would have 9 players at 71M+. If Finley goes, then they 8 players at 68M+. With the tax line projected to be around 70M, how do they get help for Tim?
One thing for sure, if this trade goes down there will be a buzz around the Spurs for the first time in quite a while.
If this trade goes down, the Spurs are back.
Even if RJ regresses further physically, he's still by far the best fourth option the Spurs have had in recent years. As Shoog said, eating up Finley's minutes makes this trade a huge win all by itself.
On a related note we can officially stick the dagger in the heart of those 2010 free agency dreams.
Actually I just watched the Spurs @ NJ game from this season 2 days ago to revisit VC and see how close to finished he was. I was surprised at how well he played and could see him fitting with the Spurs offensively. His defense was incredibly lazy from the opening tap and he huffed and puffed the whole time, but the other side of the ball . . . I like him better, and he rebounds better.
Jackson was having a huge season last year before the injury. And he's clutch, I can't say the same for RJ.
---------------
I don't hate the trade necessarily, I love opening up roster spots and RJ is an improvement, not doubt. I just have never been to impressed with his game, I felt he was an empty numbers kind of player. The Bucks board at RealGM is orgasming over dumping RJ.
I hope I've misjudged him.
Now on ESPN's front page:

A good fit.
His game will thrive next to Timmy and Tony, allowing Manu to anchor that 2nd unit. TP will have a fast break partner!
Now if the FO finds a way to Net a K-mart/Camby/Ariza type player I would feel fantastic.
He likes to drive to the basket which is very good.
If the Nets offer this trade, you accept first and worry how to add a big second.
No way you can even hesitate.
I'd say Richard Jefferson is a heck of a lot better than a 1% chance at Chris Bosh.
Fantastic move.
Even better if we can keep Bruce in silver and black.
Thanks for everything, Thomas and Oberto.
What does suck is this puts into question who our starting center will be. The Bonner experiment should be over - but that only leaves us with Ian. The Spurs are either expecting to draft a starting center, bring Splitter over somehow or trade for someone.
This obviously isn't over.
i can't believe it will happened, it's too good to br true
