You Got Schooled: Looking like All-Stars
By Chris Ferrell - Express-News commentary
The most intriguing question heading into Thursday's NBA draft has nothing to do with which player will be taken after the Clippers select Oklahoma's Blake Griffin. It's which player will steal the show with his outfit. The NBA draft is the biggest fashion night in sports, featuring picks each year who look more like the next Craig Sager than the next Michael Jordan. Here are some of the stylings from previous drafts that turned heads:
Hakeem Olajuwon (1984) and Chuck Person (1986)
The tuxedo has long been a staple of the prom and weddings, but who knew its versatility extended to the draft? If the NBA thing hadn’t worked out, they always could have joined James Bond at the British Secret Intelligence Service.
Karl Malone (1985)
The Mailman delivered on draft night with a totally rad (clip-on?) tie that screams 1980s. This suit may have been his second choice behind parachute pants, a white sequined glove and a shirt reading “Frankie Says Relax.” What, no DeLorean?
Samaki Walker (1996)
Walker bounced around the NBA for a decade, but his 5.3 ppg career scoring average was much less spectacular than the derby hat he sported on draft night. The championship rings he won with the Spurs and Lakers probably would have looked sharp with his outfit, though.
LeBron James (2003)
King James’ draft night apparel bore a striking resemblance to the white suit Morgan Freeman wore while portraying God in “Bruce Almighty.” It’s probably no coincidence that LeBron will be the most popular prayer topic for fans in Cleveland over the next year.
Joakim Noah (2007)
Perhaps the greatest suit in draft history. Throw in the wild hair and goofy grin, and Noah’s place in NBA lore is secure even if he never lives up to the billing he received while leading the Florida Gators to back-to-back NCAA championships.

Thanks baseline bum. There weren't pics with the article. It needed them.
Thanks bb. Malone looks like a guy you'd see on Miami Vice or GTA : Vice City.
Hakeem arrived with alot of class.
I always forget Samaki Walker was one of the top draft picks.
samaki walker. just tells you how good the lakers were that they got away with him guarding the likes of KG and Duncan in their primes in the playoffs
No Walker, no 3 peat. That 2002 team was pretty terrible outside of Shaq, Kobe, and the usual role players.
What the was he thinking when putting this suit and hat on!!! He looks like some cheap fake "oooh look at me, im a pimp"
