I just hope he is healthy this coming season.
Hey I know there is already a Mahinimi thread on the first page, but that's a poster asking if he's going to come over from Europe so it's likely to get deleted.
I was looking at the Spurs roster page on Yahoo when I noticed something interesting...Ian has apparently gained 20 lbs this year. It's not just Yahoo that lists him at 250, Sports Illustrated and Fox Sports do too.

I've been hoping that Ian has used this season to add some bulk to his lanky frame, and if this is true-- then wow, we may just have a legit contributor next year. I seem to remember Ian's biggest problem being a lack of legit strength which caused him to get pushed around way too much, forcing him to foul all the time.
Thoughts?
I just hope he is healthy this coming season.
If Ian could beast just a wee bit along with a solid big with the MLE, this team is scary as .
Yes and we all know how scary is.
Good find.![]()
It is good to be a Spurs fan
Here's to Mahinmi being healthy this year and ready to contribute. I haven't lost faith in him.
Don't forget Gist.
The thing that really excites me about Ian is that when he did play a little he averaged .7 blocks per game in less than 4 minutes of PT over 6 games. I realize the sample size is too small to mean anything statistically, but if he could come anywhere close to that type of production w/ the extended minutes he will get this year he will be a significant contributor and give us a defensive twin tower presence that Pop's defense really thrives on.
Can someone find that awesome photoshop of Ian when his abs look shredded as ? That was hilarious.
Interesting, I wonder how much more he plans to bulk up?
he is the wild card in all of this. if he can come in and be an athletic defender and rebounder this team is going to be VERY good
Do you think the Spurs' FO asked him to be in better shape for next season?
Does that mean they will call him up ?![]()
Low-cost option with potential..we need him next year..just please stay healthy..
if he's healthy, it's pretty much a 100% that he's going to be on the roster next year, and I would be surprised if he doesn't have a legit opportunity to show the team what he's got..
he seems like a class guy, and the team seems to like him, so I hope the best for him..
Leave it to Mahinmi228!![]()
Pretty much every scouting report I saw after he was drafted said he'd need to bulk up if he wanted to play in the NBA so this is no giant shock. I have to admit that I don't know a ton about exactly what was going on with his ankle injury last year. Is it the sort of thing that would make an extra 20 pounds a bad idea?
Ian can't be sent to the D-League anymore. If he's on the 15-man roster, he's with the team. His contract is guaranteed for this year, and the Spurs have to decide early this season if they want to pick up his option for 2010-11.

He needs to bulk up those ankles.
anyone think that since the spurs dealt Oberto and KThomas that the coaching staff has more and more confidence in Mahinmi?
The injuries have been freak the past few years but hopefully his fortunes take a turn for the better.
It must be eating him up inside.
It does remind me of when they got rid of AJ, or when Cortes burned his ships. Hopefully this will be as successful as either.
Fun stuff Bruno.
