I'm also against this, unless it's the absolute last option..

the Jefferson trade gives us 4 solid scorers on the floor at the same time..the next starter needs to be a role player, not another guy that is looking to score..as everybody saw last year, Gooden ALWAYS looks to score..

Keep Gooden, get a Rasho at the minimum. Rasho type player would start, Gooden from the bench with Hill + Mason.

The spurs are better of throwing that money at Rasho than at Gooden.

Pass too. He was a black hole on offense. Once the ball touched his hands down low, he NEVER gave it back or to anyone else. I'd rather get a defensive guy to help shore up the defensive side of the ball. It would help Duncan significantly if the Spurs got someone with defensive skills. It would help his knees a whole lot too if Duncan didn't have to be the last line of defense all the time.

I would like to see the Spurs go after Samuel Dalembert via trade then sign Gooden with the MLE and have a big rotation with

    PF: Duncan / Gooden

    C: Dalembert / Mahimni

You don't want 5 scorers on the floor at once. It doesn't work in the all-star game, doesn't work in the olympics, doesn't even work in video games.
Bring Gooden in with Manu in the 2nd unit.

Even in their limited time together I saw some chemistry emerging.

TD + low power game big (Gooden) + Defender rebounder (?) + floor spacing big (Bonner)

Dalmbert and Gooden on the same team would be trouble for us..both guys have egos, and Dalembert has a horrible at ude..

No way do I want Gooden on the Spurs. The guy is an idiot. There is a reason why he has been pawned from team to team... He never figured out Mike Browns defense, so why do people think he can figure out the Spurs? And yeah, he has some decent low post moves, but the ball never flows out of his hands. He's like a poor mans Zach Randolph...

The guy can rebound, he can score, he gives energy, he was able to get some time on the floor with NO preparation and no camp, something very few Spurs bigs have been able to do in recent years. I'm all for exploring to see what else is out there, but it's not like the Spurs have a lot of frontline depth, and it's not likely they can fill out a roster with bigs that are better than Gooden is. If they spend their money somewhere else and decide he's not worth the luxury tax to keep, I'm okay with that. At least that reason makes sense.

Id rather have him than get a benchwarmer big on the draft. At least Gooden is a great scoring option for the second team.

Exactly. Bring Gooden back. He isn't as bad as people think. He gives Tim some rest at PF, while not giving up any scoring.

If they cant get Wallace or Gortat he the next best thing out there. He just doesnt give us the D we need, but he gives us a post scorer on the second unit and could allow TD to take some games off this year without us taking a lose.

If we could grab another Defensive post player and keep Gooden we would be set next year.
I agree, except the Wallace part. I don't know if Wallace should be at the top of the list anymore, because he is mostly limited to 3-point shooting these days.

there are more defensive-minded, hustle-type bigs(Gortat,Pachulia,McDyess,Nesterovic), and even post scorers (Gooden) than the type of player that Rasheed is.

I think the Spurs would look for those types of players before they go after a Rasheed Wallace.

    +1.

This guy was clearly the 2nd most talented frontline player on the roster. A guy that possesses something the Spurs have not had during the Duncan era - a solid low-post scoring and rebounding option. Does he have some flaws? Sure. He doesn't spread the floor like Bonner nor does he have the BBIQ of Fab. However, given good health and a full training camp with the team and there's no doubt that he'd be a valuable contributor and another threat on the court.

Unless the Spurs can get an upgrade over him via FA, I think the Spurs would be foolish to simply let him walk. And if the didn't pan out by midseason, he'd probably be a good trade chip. He certainly has more natural talent, ability and FA value than either Fab or Bonner.

Gooden should be something like plan E or so. I'm ok with it if the alternative was only typical 35+ veteran signings. but I do think there are a few better options out there.
I would even ask if Wilcox (for the same money) isn't a better idea. (and I'm not a big fan of the Wilcox idea either)

Without Duncan ont he floor the Spurs have no one that can man the post on offense. Gooden provides that and he is good on the boards which the SPurs desperately need. With Manu out, the Spurs second unit stank last season. Have a second unit with Manu and Gooden and then you have the exact opposite. If he can learn the system and be an adequate man defender then he would be a huge asset to the team.

    Hill
    Manu
    Udoka
    Gooden
    Mahinmi

That is one heck of a second unit. The issue here is that he would probably want to start. OTOH, Duncan is going to have his minutes rationed during the regular season especially and Gooden could very easily see 30 mins a night.

I liked Gooden's play but, I don't think Pop was all that happy with him. I don't see him coming back unless he drops his salary wishes down really low. Camby is apparently the only one of the Clipper's bigs that other teams have shown interest in so he will cost too much for the Spurs now that we got Jefferson. But, if Sheed wants another ring he may sign for the MLE.
