Cuban, Mavs in hot pursuit of keeping Kidd
By Jaime Aron
Mark Cuban wants to be first in line to talk to Jason Kidd.
Cuban posted Tuesday on Twitter, “Getting ready to fly up to NYC for Free Agent meeting at 12:01,” and that free agent is Kidd, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because NBA rules prevent commenting on such things.
Cuban has made it clear he wants to keep Kidd, but it might not be that easy. The New York Knicks are believed to be interested, too, as could LeBron James and the Cavaliers or perhaps Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Kidd has never won an NBA championship, but has won an Olympic gold medal alongside James and Bryant.
ESPN.com first reported Cuban’s meeting with Kidd.
The prize that will put Dallas over the top!
When you have the "second best player in the league" (according to an enhanced player and lineup evaluation system that has been developed over 8 years) you gotta do whatever it takes to keep him.
Michael Jackson's kid would get Dallas closer to the le.
And going by the Jackson rates for little boys, he'd probably leave you most of your MLE for another role player, too.
Like he wasn't overpaid to begin with. Anything less than the 21 million from before is a relief.
Here's the activity the Dallas front office was talking about this summer!!! rejoice Mav fans!
I predicted during the playoffs that if Kidd didn't sign with Dallas he'd be heading to New York. Should be interesting to see who dishes out the most cash.
Who offers him the most money isn't much of a mystery. It's his current team. The suspense is if he can be lured to Cleveland or LA for the MLE.

********
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban planned to meet with Jason Kidd at midnight on Tuesday in New York City.
The New York Daily News wrote early Wednesday that "the Mavs will offer Kidd a contract starting at $8 million per over two years with an option for a third."
The Knicks are interested in Kidd as well, but can only offer him the $5.8 million mid-level exception unless they negotiate a sign-and-trade with Dallas.

Mavs in Hot Pursuit of Moving Sideways... So is it a hot pursuit or a 'sidewinder slither'?
Considering it doesn't tap into any of the other resources... I'm fine with whatever amount Cuban wants to pay Kidd... its his money.
Kidd Will Wait A Few Weeks To Decide
Jul 01, 2009 3:13 PM EST
Jason Kidd is unlikely to find a home for himself for several weeks, as he waits to see the moves the Dallas Mavericks make to upgrade their roster, league sources said Wednesday.
The Knicks are unlikely to give Kidd more than a one-year deal for the mid-level exception around $5 million, while Dallas would likely pay him around $8 million.
Kidd believes the novelty of playing in the Garden and for Mike D'Antoni might wear on him during the course of what will likely be a difficult season.
Kidd will also conduct discussions with Portland.

you then, Kidd.
Enjoy the Knicks and making 1/2 of what you could in your only other option - Dallas. Enjoy that roster of assclowns with a stick for a head coach. Enjoy a 12-70 season.
Get ed. Or, hey, better yet - go hit a .
Latest is Mavs offering 3 years/$21-25 with 3rd year not fully guaranteed and this mother er wants more. Someone is feeding him some bull . Andre Miller, Mike Bibby...come on down.
Doesnt Stack have to get traded by a certain point for the buyout to take place?
Early August.
Seeing Mike D'antoni go after Kidd is awesome, and that has nothing to do with the Mavs. Nash's oversensitive ego must be crushed to see that while he's still dwelling on the days of playing for D'antoni and is solely focused on trying to land himself in NY he's is an afterthought in D'antoni's book and D'antoni hasn't been thinking about Nash nearly as much as Nash thought he was.
Nash went into this off season thinking that every coach in the NBA loves him just as much as he loves himself and that teams would be offering Kerr trades left and right for him. He's too pompous to realize that even though fans are dumb enough to get caught up in his save the planet commercials, the rest of the league is going to notice when a player goes behind his coach's back and his teammate's back and gets them fired, even if it's the coach who needed Nash to make a name for himself.
Nash created this mess in Phoenix with everything he's done. That's the best part of this Kidd thing, if D'antoni doesn't want him I can't imagine too many other teams do, if any. Nash is gonna have to take part in the storm he created for next year. We'll see how much anyone cares about his two MVP's when the last thing he's remembered for is earning the OKC Thunder a top five pick.
Cuban ‘really happy’ about meeting with Kidd
By Jaime Aron
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban probably slept pretty soundly after his early morning meeting with Jason Kidd.
Cuban had a 12:01 a.m. meeting Wednesday with Kidd in New York, a symbolic gesture aimed at letting the free agent point guard know how much the club values him and wants to keep him.
Later Wednesday, Cuban wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press that the get-together “went well, i was really happy how it turned out.”
Kidd also met Wednesday with Knicks president Donnie Walsh and coach Mike D’Antoni at Madison Square Garden. Several other clubs are expected to woo the 36-year-old star, perhaps including a top contender like the Cavaliers.
Kidd’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, did not immediately respond to phone messages left at his office.
The Mavs also are targeting Orlando center Marcin Gortat, sending coach Rick Carlisle as one of their recruiters.
Gortat backed up Dwight Howard as a rookie last season and is now a restricted free agent, which means the Magic could keep him by matching any offer. However, with the addition of Vince Carter and his salary, Orlando isn’t likely to invest heavily in the backup to their franchise player.
Dallas could view Gortat as a backup to Erick Dampier or possibly his eventual replacement. Dampier’s expiring contract makes him potential trade bait this summer, so the starting spot could be open in months or by next season if Dampier ends up playing out his deal.
If you're dallas, why would you want an old washup pg, he cannot guard Chris Paul, TP, Deron Williams. I really think they should try to get a young pg, and develop him instead of spending so much money for kidd.
