    Here's a well reasoned anti-Finley argument:

    He sucks ass.

Even if he hit 75% from the field this season and score 18PPG in 10 MPG, he still does more to hurt than help.

Eventually you guys will figure out FGA isn't the most important stat and shot jacking isn't the only part of that game. Until that day comes...don't hold your breath expecting anyone to come around to your POV.

    Whott,

Even if he does suck.....I will give you that for your argument.

It was his option to come back. And he's going to make the most money from the Spurs and not any other team.

Also, the coaching staff likes him!! This was a no-brainer of a decision.

There are some things in life we don't like.....but you learn to live with it.

And if the worst thing in the world as a Spurs fan....is Finley being on the team for one year and considering he held all the cards....we can live with it!!!

Finley to the Spurs is like Brett Favre to the NFL. Go Away!!!

I expect the starting lineup to be this next year:

    Parker
    Finley
    Jefferson
    Duncan
    FA big

Damn Gina....no Bowen (to this point) and possibly more Finley. Still time to make it right, but with each day that goes by devoid of movement in that direction my heart shall sink a little more. Time to find a karaoke bar to express my sadness by performing my rendition of "Caribbean Queen" to honor Billy Ocean.

The last Spur to be so disparaged for returning to the team was David Robinson in '01.

He got a second ring after that (despite the doom and gloomers) and we hope that's exactly what Fin gets, too.

You are in good company, Michael!

What in the are you talking about?

People wanted DRob back. He was still a stud rotation player and helped us win multiple championships.

    Finley blows.

Well, we jettisoned Thomas and Oberto. I guess a fan can't have everything.

I don't know what we saw in Finley. The writing was on the wall when he was with Dallas.

If he gets anything close to the minutes he got last year, it doesn't matter what other moves we make in the offseason - we haven't got a chance.

Also, with Finley it's not just a matter of minutes played - it's when those minutes come in the game.

Waaay too many times Finley got crunch-time minutes last year.

Depressing to even think about him playing next year, I'm heartbroken.

It is what it is, he had the option, he took it like any of us would too, the guy shot 41% from 3-ball range last year... just welcome him back and hope he has a good season.

Of course, the Spurs could find another salary dump trade. Then I guess the forum could stop with the wrist cutting.

That's where the big disagreement comes. He's not a good insurance player because he's not a good player anymore imo.

    1. I was for getting rid of Finley a long time ago, you can go back and check the record and see for yourself. This delusion that anything I or any other poster writes about anything Spurs related is solely due to culting around timvp is laughably foolish. Timvp and I have disagreed on many things, he just happens to be correct this time.

    2. Re: 'if he stays and plays more, it's because other players suck'.

So George Hill didn't play in the playoffs until the end was at hand because he sucked? No, it's because of Pop. Suckage doesn't really have to enter into the equation with Pop. Steve Smith began 02/03 as the starter. Only after injuries did Stephen Jackson get a chance. Jackson the year before didn't get a chance even though Smith and Porter both sucked. Players sucking doesn't always factor into rotations.
Kace agreed with Pop's benching of George Hill, amazingly enough. He'll probably come back in this thread and say that Hill wasn't even good when he finally did get to play or some other genius take.

Or maybe he'll go with his "the best players play ... period" card.

i have nothing against you and others having said in the last PO that Hill should have had more PT.
but it was, and it still is, way out of proportion. i'm talking about the Hill love last year and PO and the Fin hate/bashing.

Everyone remember when Pop finally played Hill 33 minutes the last game and see it as the obvious proof that the Hill love/Fin hate theory was the good one.

but everybody seem to forget the outstanding 9 pts/0 ass performance from Hill during his 33 minutes. for me this last game clearly confirmed that Hill was still not ready to be a big game changer for us and that Fin, with his outside shot and his clutchness (which a lot of us seem to unfairly forget), was maybe not a so bad choice.

i always saw Pop being a little bit reluctant to play rookies. but never to the point where he would play a scrubs vet before a star rookie who would have made us win.

so yes, i'm all for the Fab/Bruce/Fin come back as end of the bench players, even if i wouldn't mind Finley and his 2.5 M used in a trade either.

Wonder what will happen if we trade a package of Bonner and Finley and announce that we will not be bringing back Jacque Vaughn. This place would be unbelievable. There would probably be more happy people than after winning a championship.

WTF! I don't know if your talking about spurs fans in general or spurstalk cuz I wasn't around here that long ago, but that's f'in one of the most ridiculous things i've heard. I would like to see if there was any threads and who made them back then. They should be capped in the dome.

As for finley, pout all ya want, not making a difference. Personally i don't mind him playin another year for various reasons. Of course its not a first pick but we've had far worse role players the last 5 years.

i have nothing against you and others having said in the last PO that Hill should have had more PT.
Then why you have you continued to complain about it for the last three months? All I said is that the Spurs were probably going to lose anyways so playing Hill was a good thing to get experience. After the first few eggs the Spurs laid in that series, I pointed out that Hill would help in the matchups on defense and help makes plays on offense. You proceeded to meltdown and say Hill isn't as good as I made him out to be. Truth is I never said playing Hill would help beat the Mavs but that he should be playing. By playing him almost the entire Game 5, Pop obviously agreed.

So you got that wrong and you also were wrong about the Spurs easily beating the Mavs. Congrats.

but it was, and it still is, way out of proportion. i'm talking about the Hill love last year and PO and the Fin hate/bashing.
Go look at Pop's rotation when the season was on the line. His coaching agreed with those of us who said Hill should play more and Finley should play less.

    Apology accepted.

but everybody seem to forget the outstanding 9 pts/0 ass performance from Hill during his 33 minutes. for me this last game clearly confirmed that Hill was still not ready to be a big game changer for us and that Fin, with his outside shot and his clutchness (which a lot of us seem to unfairly forget), was maybe not a so bad choice.
You so obviously didn't watch the game. Hill played pretty damn well that game. His stats didn't do it justice.

But yeah, keep blindly bashing Hill. It's what you've done since a few dumb fans said the Spurs should trade Parker and play Hill more.

so yes, i'm all for the Fab/Bruce/Fin come back as end of the bench players, even if i wouldn't mind Finley and his 2.5 M used in a trade either.
I'm not sure if you read the forum anymore or just complain about stuff but I too have been actively that Bowen and Oberto should return. If Finley picking up his contract doesn't affect how the Spurs spend money the rest of the offseason and Pop doesn't give him a significant role, I'm also fine with Finley at $2.5 million.
