It would be a good move for Dallas but the full MLE? Only makes sense if they've found a new home for Damp.
Those are decent numbers against Philadelphia in 40 mins, but I'm not convinced that guy commands a full MLE.But in the one game he started against Philadelphia when Howard was suspended, Gortat had 11 points and 15 rebounds in 40 minutes.
I'm afraid this signing will turn out similar to these guys

27 posts and you have yet to elicit a chuckle. Keep trying pup.
Gortat would be a pretty good risk for the Mavs. He needs a lot of room to operate but he should have that room with Dirk out on the perimeter.
I just saw that Gortat was drafted by the Suns in 2005...Another draft pick thrown away by PHX.![]()

11 points, 13 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per 36 minutes for Gortat. It's risky extrapolating the numbers out that far but those are some healthy numbers if the Mavs think he can produce at his current level.
I always thought Gortat looked solid when watching him this year. A big guy and he plays with good energy who has a little bit of athleticism. MLE isnt bad considering how overpaid most big men are these days.
If he could actually replicate last years numbers over the course of 30-35 minutes then he actually IS worth the MLE. BUt that's dubious to bank on considering it was a contract year and that this is a completely new role for him... assuming he's starting? I dunnO!
Can we get some wing players up in this ?
He's actually a pretty good fit for Dallas. It's not like the Mavs have anyone who does their work down low where Gortat would be in his way. They can spread the floor and that should allow Gortat to basically do the same things he did in Orlando. It's not a move that will put Dallas over any kind of hump, but Gortat would be a nice piece there. Yeah, full MLE for him is pricey, but you've got to overpay restricted free agents.
Not everyone can have a successful SpursDynasty troll like you.
I think I just saw SpursDynasty post in the spurs forum. QUICK, BEFORE HE GETS AWAY!!!
This is a steal for the Mavs. Gortat will easily outplay a MLE contract. It's amazing that some people are comparing him to Dampier.

Restricted free-agent center Marcin Gortat was scheduled to fly to Dallas on Thursday after giving the Mavericks a verbal commitment to sign an offer sheet with them next week, according to NBA front-office sources.
They over payed for him!
The Suns sold the draft rights to Gortat......that right there means he'll be an all star.
Mavs sign Gortat for the MLE and Lakers sign Artest....MAVS FAIL
Oh shut the up will ya.
Donnie Neslon and Chris Wallace must be cousins.
Which one are you referring to? McIlvane or Baker?
Mother ers are just too impatient is all. It's July 2nd and its as if the sky is falling. Stack is still an appealing expiring contract to dangle... I just wonder if there's any good names on the market out there. Are Okafor/Butler/whoever up for trade?! I dunno... I just dunno.
Part of it may stem from Spurs/Cavs/Magic/Lakers making big acquisitions so far... but its not as if its the Mavs FO's fault any of that transpired.
I'll just be patient and hope for the best. Our best days may be behind us but at least we can look back on our 2006 championship.
