If Rasheed thinks about Garnett's balky knee, he'll realize that he's starting if KG goes down. That doesn't exactly help the Spurs.
He wants to win a ring?

If I were Sheed, I'd be very concerned about Garnett's balky knee. Who's to say that guy can stay healthy for 100 games next year? For that reason I don't think he'll go to Boston.

I know the same might be said for Manu, but if Sheed plays beside Tim, and we have RJ and Parker on the floor as well, we're a top 2 team in the West even without Manu. With Manu, we're the best team -- yes, better than LA.

LA didn't have to beat a healthy Spurs team or a healthy Boston team this year, so they didn't have to beat the best. If Jameer Nelson had been healthy, Orlando would have won. LA is still overrated. If Garnett were healthy, Boston would have beaten them in 6.

So...if Sheed comes to the Spurs, we win the le. It's that simple. It doesn't matter what LA does or doesn't do.

and people on here call Laker fans idiots. Top 2 team without Manu? try top 5....I also find it funny how you expect Sheed to be some kind of big difference maker...the guy is seriously on the decline. I wouldn't expect much from him. He will help and improve your team but not as muich as you seem to think.

You might want to knock on wood when you say that considering how Tim's knees were last season.

How does Boston have a worse chance of winning than San Antonio does?

Yeah, I don't get all this trashtalk about Boston, as if they were some scrubby team with no hope! They took Orlando to 7 games without Garnett! Like the Spurs, when healthy, they are clearly one of the elite teams of the NBA.

Well, as I've said before... in the east you have a three dog race with Cleveland, Boston, and Orlando.

In the west it's LA and SA and not much else (maybe Denver can flirt with contending, but that's about it). Logic still says it's an easier path in the west to the Finals, particularly if he were to come to SA...

And then there's the revenge factor:

Sheed already got even with the Lakers for bouncing his Blazers out of the Finals on the cusp of reaching the Finals in 2004. He still owes LeBron and the Cavs for the embarassment they dished Detroit this past postseason and he'd likely have the opportunity to pay them back in Boston with the Cavs and Celts being head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in the East....at least more of a chance than he'd have if he came to SA. Not the end-all-be-all regarding reasoning, but I'm sure it was mentioned at some point during the meeting last week.

EDIT: Though I've been thinking it'll come down to SA and the Bobcats, this thought just came to mind.

For the Spurs to remain in the hunt for Wallace or another high-level NBA big man, they will need to save their full mid-level exception, slated to be worth about $5.6 million. Wallace, who is set to visit San Antonio this week, already has an offer on the table from Boston starting at that amount.

We finally get local confirmation that Rasheed is indeed visiting

The real difference now is that Sheed has definitely met with Boston's coach, GM, and star players-- as opposed to the hope of this entire thread, which is that some unnamed source has claimed that Sheed has a meeting set with the Spurs this upcoming week, which might or might not be true.

Are fans hoping for the Sheed of the early and mid 2000s, or are they hoping for the Sheed who last year had a lower FG% than Michael Finley, averaged 6/6 in a terrible playoff performance, and was so lazy as a Center that half of his shot attempts were three pointers?
I don't get how so many posters can say that Ron Artest is a chucker and Michael Finley completely sucks, but then get excited about Rasheed...

Michael Finley is ted on because of the roles he's put in..he only provides one thing to a team, his shooting, and it's inconsistent..he was put in roles that he wasn't capable of filling, because the only thing he's still able to do is to shoot off spot-ups..
This is what I don't get though-- Sheed is being given a free pass despite having a horrible FG% for a PF/C, worse even then Finley, but Finley is given the "inconsistent shooter" label. Finley's 2 pt FG% is better than Roger Mason's and his 3 pt% is better than Billups, Granger, Derek Fisher, Rashard Lewis, JR Smith, Paul Pierce, Kyle Korver, Vince Carter, OJ Mayo, Mike Miller, Brandon Roy, JJ Re , Chris Paul, Dirk, and Hedo... and he only makes 2.5 mil a year. It seems like the level and intensity of scrutiny changes dramatically for spur fans when the discussion moves from Finley to Rasheed, and that's what doesn't make sense to me.

The part that perplexes me is that the Rasheed I watched play this last season was about as interested as Robert Horry was his last year on the Spurs, so I do not know why all the excitement to spend the MLE on him.

I'm not saying Sheed wouldn't bring some good things to the Spurs, but it just seems like most people are so caught up in the hype right now that there is no real discussion about him going on. For example, he averaged fewer offensive rebounds per game last year than Bonner despite playing more mpg, and Bonner plays in a system that doesn't emphasize offensive rebounding.... isn't that a red flag, along with his extremely low FG%, his terrible playoff performance (quitter?), and his world record ac ulation of technicals?

I'll just say that I'm much more in favor of McDyess.

I think it's as simple as we need a proven big. We all saw what happened during the playoffs. Duncan had no real help, and he can't be playing long minutes during the regular season.

So, it's not that I think Sheed is the greatest, but he's a great option right now. I know he's older and is not as great as he once was, but he's certainly a tier above the bigs out there right now. It would be exciting to get someone of his caliber to play next to Duncan.

Clearly, if we could land him or Dyess, many of us feel the Spurs would be real serious contenders again. The Spurs would get a big man who has been in pressure situations before, and I think still has something in his tank. Duncan and Sheed platying together would be awesome and something I really hope all us Spur fans get to see.

I bet he does come early in the week either Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday is the 8th and contracts can begin to get signed. I would think the FO wants a yes or no, so they can move on to Dyess and/or bother bigs. Hopefully, Sheed doesn't drag this on.

Tully, you certainly have a point about his effectiveness last year and his on the court antics/technicals, etc... He's definitely not a personality-plus, and certainly has lost a step due to age.

Even given that though, I think he can be guided and will flourish in a system he respects with people he respects (Pop and Timmy). I really think he has enough in his tank to step it up and be effective for us, especially if he believes he can win a ring. I guess it's a chance the FO is willing to take. I would not be too disappointed if we land Dyess either though. I just hope we get a legitimat big as we all know we need one to really contend.

    Wallace a Celtic

The Celtics have reached agreement with free agent forward/center Rasheed Wallace tonight on a contract that starts at the midlevel exemption of $5.8 million, according to a league source.
The contract is believed to be for two years.

The addition of Wallace gives Celtics the service of one of the best shooting big men in the league. It also strengthens an already solid defense and provides offensive and defensive firepower off the bench.
The agreement comes at a time when the former Piston had been expected to be courted by the Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks. Bill Strickland, Wallace’s agent, had said via text message earlier in the day that he was in the process of setting up meetings with those teams.

Detroit has been a s of its once-great self the past couple of seasons and I think that all Raheed needs hopefully is a change of scenery with a top caliber team with a coach he respects.. I think SA is just the place he'll thrive in.
