I actually agree with Manumaniac...any and all forms of discrimination are fair game when it comes to electing President, it's not a right to be President, it's a privilege. That said, some forms of discrimination are enormously stupid.
People that voted for Obama because he was black and for no other reason...that's fair.

I agree with this. Families should be off-limits, and popular outrage over the relentless, burrowing focus on Palin's children, strikes me as well-founded, but ultimately harmless
Why? Because too many of the people who so passionately denounce it will defend it when they dislike the political target. For the media, there's no price to pay for lacking decorum and tact. Half of the audience will cheer, half will boo, and the media itself will cover the *controversy* it instigated. If the media gets away with being tacky it's because we're tacky too.
OTOH, Ms Palin would have done well to keep her family out of the spotlight instead of using them as stage props.

They had already been attacked. Keeping them out of the spotlight would have been the wiser course IMO, but of course she had every right to do what she did.
I wasn't saying that it was improper for Palin to use her family as campaign props; I just thought it showed bad judgment, if she really cared so much about their privacy.
