You betcha Sarah Palin is still a viable presidential candidate! Even though the governor of Alaska dropped the bombs last week that she was leaving her post, a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds that her support among Republicans is still strong. In fact, her resignation seems to have even slightly boosted her among GOP cons uents.

According to the nationwide poll, close to 67% of Republicans want Palin to be "a major national political figure" in the future. And 71% of them say they would likely vote for her if she ran for president in 2012.
Top Republican consultant Mary Matalin called Palin's move "brilliant," and conservative talk-show host Bill Bennett went on CNN to discuss the surprisingly high number of viewers who called into his show in support of Palin's decision.
"To political pros [Palin's resignation] may be a problem. To the base, I'm not sure it's a problem at all," Bennett told CNN.

And Bennett may be exactly right. Just as Republicans as a whole are unfazed by Palin's move, the poll shows Democrats and Independents are as unhappy with her as they were before, with 75% of Democrats and 55% of independents preferring she leave the national stage altogether.

According to USA TODAY, public opinion of Palin has become so polarized that her surprise announcement did little to change anyone's feelings: Seven out of 10 people say their views weren’t affected at all.

GOP consultant Alex Castellanos seconded Bennett's sentiment. He told USA TODAY:

"For Independents and Democrats, she's already not their candidate, and with Republicans her support is not based on her record as governor of Alaska."

But what would bring about such stark polarization between the parties?

Some would argue that it was Palin's in-your-face at ude and all-too publicized blunders that ultimately posited her as an inexperienced and unviable candidate. But Palin, in her resignation speech, blamed the media, calling its coverage of her a "superficial, wasteful, political bloodsport."

And Republicans echo Palin's complaints of media mistreatment. According to the poll, 75% of the GOP believes coverage of Palin has been unfairly negative.

Dana Oshiro of ReadWriteWeb.com opines that the Web is also to blame. "It’s the Internet that ignited the tournament of torment," she writes. From viral videos of "Palin drag shows" to ubiquitous photos of Palin Halloween costumes, the ex-governor became the "Internet's comic relief in an environment that might have otherwise been staunch."

Whether Palin has been unfairly portrayed in the media continues to be a hotly debated issue. But one thing seems to be certain: She has established herself as an American media fixture, loved and loathed by either side of the aisle.

    "to the base" ?

It's too damn small, and shrinking, as the Repugs learned last election, and will learn again. The Repugs have been captured by single-issue, ideological assholes, and don't even want to escape.

The base isn't growing at all. Both parties' bases are going to shrink and the independent vote is going to swell.

They ing stole the rock-ribbed republicanism of my fathers, and left a mutant scion of liberal internationalism (plus fundie footsie) in its place. A changeling. These people think Palin is a conservative.

Are y'all familiar how Palin held up big energy in Alaska, or do you cite that as an accomplishment?

Two good articles about Sarah Palin:

    1. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.co...a-roundup.html

Andrew Sullivan compiled an exhaustive list of all the lies she has told in her brief political career so far, big and small.

    2. http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot....-messages.html

Public Policy Polling, who track the trends and numbers in a variety of races all across the country, has some interesting things to say about Palin's numbers:

Our newest national poll finds that Sarah Palin has actually gained in popularity but hurt her prospects for some day being elected President since announcing she will resign early as Governor of Alaska last week.

46% of Americans view Palin favorably, with 45% holding a negative opinion of her. In monthly surveys conducted between April and June her favorable rating was in the range of 42-43%.

The slight increase in popularity is fueled by the number of Republicans with a positive view of her increasing from 75 to 79%. She is static with independents and slightly down with Democrats.

When it comes to whether she's fit to be President though, 55% of voters in the country say no with just 37% in the affirmative. And asked specifically how her early resignation affects their inclination to some day support her for the White House, 57% of respondents say it makes them less likely to do so compared to 30% who say it makes them more likely to vote for her.

Here are some other key findings from the poll:

-Only 19% of moderates think Palin is fit to be President.

-She has a +8 net favorability rating with men but a -6 one with women.

-Despite her overall popularity with Republicans only 68% of them think she is cut out to be chief executive.

-Among voters with a favorable opinion of her 21% do not say she is fit to be President. Among voters with an unfavorable opinion of her only 1% say she is fit to be President. Both of these numbers present problems for Palin. The first one shows that even among a decent chunk of voters who like her they don't think she's suited to be leader of the free world. The second one shows that there's little hope of her earning the respect of her detractors. For instance many Democrats, while holding an unfavorable opinion of John McCain, would still say that he is fit to be President. But when it comes to Palin they don't like her or take her particularly seriously.

What does it mean? She's absolutely beloved by the party base and there's no doubt she can be a hit for years to come at fundraisers and GOTV rallies. And she may even be popular enough with Republicans to score the party's nomination in 2012 if she wants it. But national polls we conducted between March and June showed her trailing Barack Obama by an average of 16 points, worse than Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and even Newt Gingrich. And the numbers within this most recent poll would seem to further confirm that barring some major rehabilitation of her image, nominating her in 2012 would be a GOP death wish.

I doubt she'll run in 2012 but if she does my guess is that she only ends up getting nominated if Barack Obama's reelection seems inevitable and Republicans just want to vote for someone who makes them feel good, ala Barry Goldwater in 1964. If they think they have a real chance of winning they'll probably nominate someone who is perceived to be more electable.

I always wanted to walk thru a mature American Chestnut forest then have the day turned to night as a flock of millions of passenger pigeons passed overhead. And even though they've dissappeared too, I don't let it get me down.

On the substance, Palin is a conservative in todays world. Too conservative according to many. Wishing for the days of old won't change that. Plus, I think your being too hard on the girl. She really hasn't said much in the way her national views. You choose to see the worse. I choose to hope she's my little hybridized blight resistant American Chestnut tree.

This is what the Florida Whig Party has under national issues on their website. How do you feel about the modern whig party WH?

    They Simply Hate Difference

There is a trend that is easy to spot and has existed for many decades yet you will not read, hear, or see about it in the general media.

Often, those who are the most socially liberal simply hate difference. Their intolerance of others is amazing. Their expression of intolerance is often to demean those who are different. Terms such as stupid, uneducated, simple, redneck, and Southern, are often flipped at those who have more conservative beliefs than they can tolerate. When those who are brow beaten return fire, the utter cow wails start immediately. The vast right wing conspiracy mantra begins along with return fire (gut shots) to spouses, children, and relatives (and don't forget the special children who are easy slap targets, followed by: “I’m just saying”).

They simply hate difference among their-kind, better describes their psychological composition. These modern day Suicical-Hitlers are a weird group to figure out. They are usually white, from Ivy League schools, have a real life mommy, daddy, and one sibling, and talk with a Boston/New York accent as if Madonna had provided a wee bit of voice coaching. They want to gas those who appear like them but who have and voice different views. And yet, those who are from any other nation, are of a different race, of mixed race, or those who prefer to cease to populate or swear violence and hatred for our nation, they bow, get down on their knees to lie down, roll over and wait as a dog waits for a good scratch on the belly. Vulnerability aside, they simply want the feel-good sensation from a good belly scratch (never mind this is the position they place pigs for gutting or field dressing).

If you work with your hands, attend a Christian based church (especially one of those where they sing and [OMG - Dance!], wear a name tag, have a spouse, children, and actually enjoy a beer while watching football, NASCAR, or baseball (soccer, hockey, and golf would be acceptable alternatives), well you're simply not fit to stand in line next to them at FAO Schwarz (OMG FAO was purchased by that low class Toys R Us - What will we do!).

Suicidal Hitler’s are as much a scourge to America and our tolerant culture as the Klu Klux Klan was and is. Skin Heads who bash the skulls of those who are not white are physically violent and it's time to call the Suicidal Hitler’s for what they are, emotionally violent. They take to the electronic pulpits and pour drain cleaner into the skulls of the passively attentative and have achieved social regression on many levels and dimensions; however, the Internet is providing to be the greatest equalizer the world has known since Johannas Gutenberg yelled "Start the presses".

During the summer of 1787, men were sent as representatives from their states to Philadelphia to try for the third time to get it right. The United States of Congress followed by the then Articles of Confederation were in need of overhaul or complete rewrite for our young nation to survive. While Washington, Wythe, Mason, Pinckney, Wilson and many others toiled in utter professional debate and in secrecy (which would have driven today’s Suicidal Hitler’s into spontaneous combustion), they achieved what no other nation had done before, they created what Franklin called an imperfect do ent and government that was the best that mankind would ever see and its greatest achievement; we agree. They did this through compromise, respect, and mutual tolerance, while living in a booming city where the language heard on the streets was as much if not more likely to be from a European nation or domestic Indian tribe. Had our Suicidal-Hitler’s been in control as they are today, this nation would not be what it is, imperfect that it is – the greatest nation on the face of the earth (another phrase that starts the Suicidal Hitler’s foaming like rabid dogs).

The time to cast from the nation the corruption that abounds among boards of directors, management of public companies, Congress, the Imperial White House, foreign interest peddlers of influence, and the less than blindfolded Lady Justice is now; and the Suicidal Hitler’s need to be in that boat as well.

The tax based tea parties have ended for now. The Suicidal-Hitler’s can calm down and rejoice that their current target of demented attack (Sara Palin) has been taken to her knees (at least that’s what they want to believe, say, and pray). It was a busy and glorious weekend for them as they rejoiced in Palin’s death and remembrance of Michael Jackson, for whom they felt an unbridled kindred spirit of struggle of economic, racial, and inner city oppression (can you spell Kool-Aid?)

The Florida Whig Party is committed to moderation, mutual tolerance, acceptance of our history, culture, morals, mores, and that the facts are the facts and to accept anything less simply because they do not fit into Cinderella’s Pollyanna view of life is horse manure. We accept that progress is critical for without it, to pause or stop is to fall behind and die. Our planks are wide enough for many to stand side-by-side without falling off this ship we call Earth that exists for our life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness rather than that of the snail darter. We not only support but encourage those who speak of change but encourage the conversation regardless of our agreement or disagreement.

The Tax / Tea Protests have sent the elite media based Suicidal-Hitler’s into a rage as they know there is something afoot that their lack of coverage and vile bile is not slowing and They Simply Hate Difference.

With yesterday’s interesting tribute/funeral of entertainer Michael Jackson, the Suicidal-Hitler’s would do best to read and remember the lyrics of the Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie song: “We are the World” and apply the spirit of the song’s wish for diversity, mutual tolerance, helping hand, and acceptance (that some like Michael can speak and believed in) of God; a force you do not understand and of whom you so often speak of while shaking your head from left to right.

Hatred of difference is not a one way or two way street; it’s a dead end.

    It’s just that simple.

    There comes a time
When we head a certain call
When the world must come together as one
    There are people dying
And it's time to lend a hand to life
    The greatest gift of all

    We can't go on
    Pretending day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change
We are all a part of
    God's great big family
And the truth, you know love is all we need

    [Chorus]
    We are the world
    We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
    So let's start giving
    There's a choice we're making
    We're saving our own lives
    It's true we'll make a better day
    Just you and me

    Send them your heart
So they'll know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stone to bread
So we all must lend a helping hand

    [Chorus]
    We are the world
    We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
    So let's start giving
    There's a choice we're making
    We're saving our own lives
    It's true we'll make a better day
    Just you and me

    When you're down and out
There seems no hope at all
    But if you just believe
There's no way we can fall
Well, well, well, well, let us realize
That a change will only come
When we stand together as one

    [Chorus]
    We are the world
    We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
    So let's start giving
    There's a choice we're making
    We're saving our own lives
    It's true we'll make a better day
    Just you and me
