Sasha Vujacic/Luke Walton-esq signing, completely pathetic.

I hope LBJ stays in Cleveland now so he's stuck with Vajieo on his team the whole time, classic.

Jesus Christ, its no wonder the Cavs have been locked into mediocrity for thier entire existance. Why would you commit to a scrub for 6 years, especially if you might have to completely rebuild your team next year?

Ugh, I mean I hate ThunderDan and all, and I certainly wish him the worst, but even this makes me want to smash my face onto my desk repeatedly. How do these GMs get these ing jobs.

If its the MLE over 6 years with 8% raises, then its not that bad. He's one of the better post defenders in the league.

If Gortat can get the MLE, then so can Varejao.

I'm taking a guess but the MLE is like the average player salary. Varejao 1st big off the bench, potential starter, more provan than Gortat who is getting the same amount of money in the same market. Best defensive big, works well off ball with LeBron. He brings energy and passion. He's worth it.

    LeBron likes AV btw.

    Good Singing by the Cavs.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cavaliers have made their big moves in free agency.

After making a splash by trading for Shaquille O'Neal, the Cavs have come to terms with one of their core players and are close to adding a key piece.

The Cavs have agreed on a new contract with forward Anderson Varejao, agent Dan Fegan said Wednesday. In addition, a league source said the Cavs have come to terms on a deal for free agent guard Anthony Parker. He could complete the that deal within the next few days.

Varejao, the team's versatile big man who became a starter last season, is set to get a six-year contract that could be worth as much as $50 million.

Much as with the contracts the team signed with Delonte West and Daniel Gibson last summer, the final year of Varejao's deal is believed to be only partially guaranteed.

"Andy wanted to stay in Cleveland," Fegan said. "He feels there is unfinished business -- to win an NBA championship."

Varejao had interest from several teams, including the Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder, and other potential sign-and-trade offers from other teams without salary-cap space. Fegan said several teams were willing to offer Varejao contracts that averaged $10 million per season.

But he and the Cavs were able to construct a deal to keep Varejao over the last week, a significant step after the two sides were unable to reach a deal in 2007 that led to a holdout. The deal will also keep Varejao's cap number to a little more than $7 million in the 2010-11 season, which could still allow the Cavs to be players in free agency next summer depending on where the salary cap goes.

If I could say one thing positive about Anderson Vagina, he can flop really well. I think the Cavs organization really respects this guy for his flopping abilities; they know that flopping is a talent and takes practice to be able to fool the refs.

42.5/6 for flopping is not so bad a deal. One of the better post-defenders my ass.

The East is even more of a toss up more now than ever.

The Cavs got older by getting Shaq/Parker and they dont have much versatility in their bigmen. They havent made any big moves (other than Shaq) that makes them all that much better than a year ago.

The Magic traded for Vince Carter's nasty contract, lost Hedo, and have a really thin bench. The Starting 5 should be solid but the bench is going to be worse.

The Celts signed an over the hill player in Sheed, may lose Glen Davis, looking to get even older by possibly signing Grant Hill, and the Boston Three Party will be another year older. KG's health is also of major concern.

It really is a toss up in the east.

Brilliant move, Cleveland. I think this signing makes it much more likely James leaves. Now Cleveland will have less than $10 million in capspace to sign anyone decent when they could have had money for a max guy. How is Ferry going to possibly sell LeBron on re-signing now? He's going to come back to a team of Mo Williams, Sideshow Bob, Delonte West, and Boobie Gibson that's only going to have $8-$9 million or so to fill out the other 7 roster spots with no chance to get a Bosh, Wade, or a Stoudemire? If I'm Ferry I would have flat out let Varejao walk and then prayed for Shaq's health for a season.

IF IF IF Health is kind to the Celts, they could very well be the team to beat in the East. For now it is still Orlando but IF health is a positive for Boston, I can see them going back to the finals. Im not getting my hopes up though.

Cavs are trying to go all out now. They have tried and tried to put a a very good team around Lebron but it hasnt worked out as they would have hoped. The number of years is the only thing that ferry ed up on. The Cavs mindset is that they are going all out now rather than pissing a year away. This is the best they can do and they are going to kiss the dice and let em roll even at the risk of losing James next summer.

word. This one is much worser than the Bargnani one.
lol i'd rather have Bargnani than Varejao

yeah, this obviously spells out Lebron's intentions for next season. Cavs know he's a goner. Varejao's a crowd-favorite, it was a decent move but not for that much money and that long a contract

Gortat is getting less than Vareflop. Just cause Vareflop is the first big off the bench on a team with ty big men other than Shaq, doesn't mean he's worth that, and even if he was a good bench player on a team loaded with bigs, you still don't give a bench player that contract.
