He's deciding on whether he wants a multi-year deal for less money or a 1 year deal in hopes of getting a more lucrative one in 2010.

If Odom is hanging on to the hope that some team will overpay him or at least up the ante and force the Lakers to overpay, it's probably not happening:

    - Teams which are contenders (e.g. Cleveland, Boston or SA) where Odom can be a real difference-maker were already over the cap and could have only offered the MLE. That would be fruitless since LA is probably already offering more than that. So they went ahead with other big man options (MLE signings for SA and Boston, large contract for Varejao from Cleveland based on the fact that they own his bird rights)

    - Teams which are not top contenders (e.g. Portland or Detroit or Toronto) probably don't see Odom as a difference-maker. He is the best bench PF in the league, but they aren't going to throw 10 million a year at a 3rd or 4th option.

    - Teams which suck bad would need Odom to be a go-to guy and he just isn't good enough for that.

Only LA can fork over 8 million per to re-sign him. If he wants 12 million, nobody else is going to pay him that much. LA will sit back and wait for him to exhaust all other options because he wont get a better deal outside

What the is he waiting for? Nobody is going to pay him more, although I think his worth is much higher than some of these ridiculous contracts we've seen. That's probably his dilemma. He's seeing lesser players get more money, and it probably pisses him off.

Come on Portland! We know that you're just going to yourselves over one way or another, you might as well take the Lakers with you in the process.

Odom's going to re-sign with the Lakers...only thing in question is when and for how much.

He's trying to get the most he can...there's no rush. Both Odom and the Laker hold some leverage:

    1) Odom knows the Lakers have no other PF options other than through trade or a $1 million vet minimum. Both highly unlikely to land a quality PF.

    2) Lakers know that there are only 3 teams that can pay big money to Lamar...Lakers/Portland/OKC.

I think it's going to be a stalemate for awhile longer until somebody blinks.

Maybe Stern asked for a handown from Los Angeles that they delay the announced agreement as long as possible. Once Odum signs its over 'till October. This dunk thing with James and the crowning of Shawn Marion as the greatest thing since sliced bread debases us all.

I do believe July in Portland is when they all gather round that '77 ring & have a circle jerk. Dr. Jack serves as fulcrum.

He's probably waiting to see what happens with Portland and Millsap. If Utah holds onto him and Portland strikes out on the Hinrich deal, Odom's going to start looking good to them.

David Lee would probably be next in line before Lamar or Andre Miller if he's still out there, Lamar's a bad fit for them. Only reason they should go after Lamar is to weaken the Lakers, he makes no sense to me for them other then that. They need a physical bulldog type of back up 4, which Lamar isn't. Plus they already have like 4 SF's so I just don't see the point of him going there to play the 3, which he kinda sucks at anyways, when you have a ton of dudes that are already there.

Looks like he and his agent are pretty quiet right now.
Don't worry, I don't think LA or Odom will make the mistake of not agreeing to something soon.

Of course, for our sake, we hope Portland takes him.
