First off: this really should be in the NBA forum
Second off: what money do you propose we should have signed him with?
DALLAS (AP)—Brandon Bass(notes) is going from backing up Dirk Nowitzki(notes) to likely starting next to Dwight Howard(notes).
Bass agreed Friday to sign with the Orlando Magic, according to a person with knowledge of the decision. The person was granted anonymity because the Magic had not made an announcement.
NBA.com, which first reported the signing, said it was a four-year deal for around $18 million, with an escape clause after three years.
The Mavericks were hoping to re-sign Bass, but ran out of money and playing time with the acquisition of Shawn Marion(notes). Coincidentally, Dallas is expected to soon get restricted free agent center Marcin Gortat(notes) from Orlando; paperwork is going through on an offer sheet that the Magic are expected not to match.
In Orlando, Bass is expected to start at power forward, with Rashard Lewis(notes) and newcomer Vince Carter(notes) taking over the two wing spots, along with Howard at center and Jameer Nelson(notes) at point guard.
Bass is only 23, but he’s been in the NBA for four years—two with the Hornets, the last two with the Mavericks. He averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds over 19.4 minutes per game last season, almost identical to his numbers the previous season.
At 6-foot-8, Bass is a bit undersized for a power forward, but he’s got a wide body and plenty of toughness. He also has a good mid-range jumper and he made 87 percent of his free throws last season
Why didn't the Spurs go after him!?!?!

Because Antonio McDyess is better and we only had one MLE.
Dice >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bass
Dice fits our needs so much more, post D, can hit jumper even better
Plus considering that Bass plays so well against Spurs-- we should be happy he essentially is swapped for Gortat b/c Mavs and Magic.
Why Fish for Bass when you can Roll the Dice
Very nice.![]()
wow, Anderson and Bass are going to be a HUGE upgrade in their frontcourt.
IMO Anderson > Bass > Gortat
Pretty much agree.
But Dyce will be 35 in Sept!
Another old man!!

To go with the the two young players in Blair and Ian.
Man, I hope Blair's knees hold up!!
I've been waitin to see how Ian does in the Spurs rotation, I don't think Coach Pop trusts him!
judging by your username, i doubt youre a spurs fan. you are simply a laker hating fan. that is the type of fan i cannot respect.
I am a SPURS fan, I'm just discussin the topic!!
I think Bass is a very good player, his numbers in 08-09 were similar to Marions!
I think he coulda been our big man in the middle! The Spurs hav had matchup problems with him in the past, so I thought why not have him on our team!!
At least he went to the East!
Dice is just better in EVERY facet than Bass.
It's that simple.
bass is too short to play center and his rebounding, depsite his position, isnt that good. our biggest problem up front for a few years now was rebounding and defense and mcydess is better than him in both.
I think hes better 'cuz he plays 'bout 11 more mins. than Bass!!
Bass IMO is almost like Kurt Thomas except younger, & I thought that was the kinda player the Spurs were hoping to land in order to replace Orberto & Thomas!

Bass is a nice player, but redundant with Blair. Dice can cover centers better and gives us more of what we need to win right now.
As for the Mavs, the loss of Bass, then adding Gortat and Marion. I'm not seeing where they are getting better? Did not mention resigning Kidd for $9 million a year. Typical STUPID IDIOTIC cap management by Cuba. He'll bleed another $20 million in luxury taxes, at least, and still can't buy a championship!
Love it!
Forgot to mention Marion is past his prime and has the worst looking shot of any player in the league. I used to love it when he was with the Suns and he would chuck up an ugly looking 3 and hit it. That meant he would take and miss 5 more and we were on our way to the W!
not a great comparison. KT has high b-ball iq and is a great defender. KT's offense is pretty limited, he can hit an open jumper. his main offensive weapon is the offensive rebound or setting a screen.
bass is a poor defender, not sure about his IQ, and a better scorer. hes a good FT shooter and hes got a consistent jumper. hes decent in the post but wont score of an above average defender with any consistency.
i would definitely take bass over thomas but hes nowhere near mcdyess.
