I think its messed up, but if he wasn't ready or finally realized he didn't want to, well its his decision. You can't fault him. Marriage is suppose to be for life and he wasn't ready for that I guess. Better to call it off now than later.

I'm assuming there is some backstory there, but even if there isn't. . . sometimes people get engaged thinking this is what they want and in the end realize it's not. You get to know people better, situations or cir stances change, or you change. It sucks to call it off right before, but better to do that and lose out on some money than to go through when you are unsure.
