This thread is about praising Buss for his hard stance with Odom. Someone compared him to the late Pistons owner Bill Davidson. I distinguished the two because Davidson was consistent with how he handled players and negotiations and offering fair deals with basically a take it or leave it approach. The inferences in this thread that Buss is doing the right and shrewd thing is what I challenge. Because if he was this smart, hardball negotiator then he should been the same with Andrew Bynum and his agent. And if he was so tactful about financial prudence, he should have never signed off on the Luke and Sasha contracts.
You can't bottomline an argument and say Buss can't be questioned merely because he is successful. Enron and GM were very successful for years but obviously there were decisions that could have been questioned along the way. I don't think it was Jerry Buss behind all of the Lakers success. I think it was first of all Jerry West more so, plus the fortune of the Lakers brand combined with the draw of Los Angeles that were more vital to the success of the Lakers.
When it comes to Jerry Buss, don't mistake fortune for diligence or intelligence. He certainly can be questioned.
