Ramona Shelburne reports that according to one source, Odom is looking for the same money that Marion got…

Just spoke with league source who said Odom wants at least what Marion got from Dallas (five years, $38.6 million) (via Twitter)
    http://thelakersnation.com/blog/2009...-38-6-million/

Man these reports are all over the place

Didn't the Lakers offer him 4/36? Isn't that a better ratio than 5/38?

I don't care what thread it is in, it is stupid. If this is true Odom is a complete idiot.

Yes but at age 34 I really doubt he will be able to get a 2 mil offer for one year.

Yes, but Lamar want more years, as this is probably his last big contract, he want as many guaranteed years as possible in the NBA

You ers may be classy, but you sure don't know math.

    38mil>36mil.

You have to factor in that these contracts are guaranteed. He could get injured, then which one do you think is the better ratio?
Do you know what a ratio is?

but yeah, odom wants guaranteed money. i guess he would accept less per year as long as the overall number is bigger.

38 > 36 million but he'll have an extra year. Chances are the contract he gets will be > 2 million after that 4 year deal is up.

    I could tell.

And Lamar is being ridiculous at this point. Buss was in good form to call for a clean break in the negotiations.

No, but even us dummies can figure out 38 million is more than 36 million. No need to try and dissect it to defend your classiness. Bottome line, the five year deal is better than the four year deal.
You really feel that a 5yr deal at 7.6M is better than a 4yr deal at 9M per?

38 > 36 million but he'll have an extra year.
    With the 38 mill/5 yr deal....He'll also make 1.4 million dollars less/ (per)year.

Chances are the contract he gets will be > 2 million after that 4 year deal is up.
Exactly...it seems like more of a security/comfort thing than anything else. Dude wants to know he's got a home for the next 5 years (4 years isn't enough).

Also, what's funny is 99.999% of America will not earn 36 million dollars in their lifetime. If that's the last contract Odom ever gets, he still shouldn't be losing any sleep about how the bills get paid.

I really find it hard to believe that Buss refused to give him a fifth year for $2M more. The Lakers reportedly offer 3yr/$30M and 4yr/$36M and we are to believe that Odom and his agent requested an extra year to that for only an extra $2M? I think that if this report is accurate, this is Odom caving in and coming to his senses.

How much more money does he really need anyway. What's a few millions here or there anyway?

Couldn't a better argument be made from the other side? Dr. Buss obviously has a great deal more money than Odom, so a few million here or there would mean less to him that it would to Lamar.

it is cause odom was the one that was demanding 5 yrs 50 million. the lakers offered what you have stated. odom is lowering his salary demands but not years. he wants to stay in LA but wants to be sure its for a long time

99.999% of americans will not spend that much money in their lifetime either. you have to factor in the lifestyles of nba players

I'm not sure that lowering his demands would actually guarantee a longer stay in L.A. A lower salary may make it easier for the Lakers to trade him after a few years if they choose.

If it is likely the players last major contract then i would take more years guaranteed money every time. But if the player is young, you go for more money per year.
