Odom hubbub has Lakers looking for big man
Now that the Lakers have reneged Lamar Odom’s potential deal, the team has a little money to spend. It’s apparently looking for a big man through a sign-and-trade with Odom or a straight trade with another player. The list of possibilities for the Lakers is long and includes such fellas as Stromile Swift, Sean May, Jarron Collins, Mikki Moore, and Juwan Howard. Meanwhile, Odom still has an offer on the table from the Heat that is worth $5.9 million, one third the amount Odom made this year, it is thought that Odom is purely using Miami to help leverage his Laker contract higher. Looks like he doesn’t need to worry about that now. (Los Angeles Times, South Florida Sun-Sentinel)
Lakers technically are still the team to beat but with Ariza out and now it looks like Odom is gone, the future is looking brighter and brighter for the Spurs. Artest is a good addition but he has to learn the system but has shown to be injury prone. They also lose the threat of Odom's ball handling as a big even though he was thier most inconsistent player.

Ok, I'll bite. Let's ship then Bonner.
Let's send them Scola. Oh wait, nevermind.
I think the same ...
I'd say trade them the rights to Splitter, but Gasol is from Spain and might tip them off that it's not actually in the United States. Splitter looks a lot better if they don't know that part.
I don't want Odom here but I bet the house on him not siging. Bridges were burnt when Mitch pulled the offer off the table. Odom know he has a ring and now it's payday. He showed he will not going for anything less than $10 million. They had almost $9 mill on the table and he didn't take it.
Shouldn't this thread be in the NBA forum with the countless other Odom threads?
problem is, that noone will pay more than that...I just dont see it happening...I think he is trying to use Miami to put pressure on LA...maybe they bite, mybe he will give up...I just think, he is staying
Good point he may be using that tactic
LA thinks they can S&T him but he'd have to agree to play at whatever destination that is. I think he just walks.
Sign n trade Gooden?they got jack what we need....
Those are some really ugly options for the Lakers
They are! And Drew Gooden wasn't even mentioned. He is on some blacklist or so far under the radar he's below ground. Jarron Collins? Mikki Moore? Those guys can't even rebound. And Sean May is an injury riddled pig.
Heat targeting both Boozer and Odom
By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports Jul 15, 11:06 pm EDT LAS VEGAS – Pat Riley has listened to Dwyane Wade(notes) express his unease with the Miami Heat sitting out the Eastern Conference’s arms race this summer. As the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic elevated themselves as championship contenders, the Heat president sold his superstar on patience, promising a plan to surround him with talent for the long run.
Now, the Heat are working furiously to deliver Lamar Odom(notes) and Carlos Boozer(notes) to the shores of Biscayne Bay. The Heat are trying to sell Odom on a five-year, $34 million contract at the mid-level exception, and a league executive with knowledge of the talks says Miami has also hatched a three-way proposal with the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies to secure Boozer.
The essentials of a possible deal would include Miami sending forward Udonis Haslem(notes) and Dorell Wright to Utah. Because Memphis is under the cap, Utah could move Wright’s $2.8 million salary to the Grizzlies and save itself approximately $5.6 million with salary and luxury-tax payments. Memphis would probably get cash and picks for its trouble. The Heat would have to send one more small contract to make the math on the salary exchange work.
Miami could pay Boozer his $12.7 million salary this season and own his Bird rights to sign him to an extension next summer.
The deal isn’t considered imminent, but the Jazz are working hard to find a suitable trade for Boozer. Utah is determined to match the Portland Trail Blazers’ $32 million offer sheet for restricted free agent Paul Millsap(notes). Utah has until the end of the week to match or lose the young power forward to the Blazers. Most league executives believe that Utah will match the offer, regardless of whether they’ve moved Boozer.
Portland is still trying to pry Tayshaun Prince(notes) out of Detroit in a three-way deal with Utah, but Pistons president Joe Dumars hasn’t shown an inclination to move Prince and extend Boozer’s contract, league sources say. Several league executives are dubious of Boozer as a $14 million-a-year player, which his agent, Rob Pelinka, has told teams it will take to sign him to an extension. Miami could be the suitor willing to pay it.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ standoff with Odom is still fluid, but a source close to Odom insists he would probably only leave L.A. for Miami, not the Dallas Mavericks, who are also pursuing him. Odom’s agent is trying to get a five-year, $45 million deal out of the Lakers, who have offered four years and $36 million
Why? Why does it seem many Spurs fans here WISH for Odom not to play on the Lakers? Don't you want to beat the champs with a loaded barrel? Why act scared? Let's take it to them with all we have and with all they have, with Odom or without Odom, who cares? BRING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beating the Lakers with Odom would be sweet.. but its a law of nature to pursue the path of least resistance.![]()
But still, we can only be concerned with what our team does on the court and through signings, not what any other team is going to do or not do. It's Spurs against the WORLD!!! BRING IT!!!

You're so right, that's why the entire league was so excited when the lakers were gifted with Pau Gasol, since there aren't millions of dollars at stake or anything, this is just playground fun.![]()
Looks like the LAkers will be looking to sign Gooden and Miami will see the return of Odom.
It's funny, but for almost exactly what we're paying him, the Lakers could have had Blair.![]()
BTW, I hope that the Lakers DO sign Gooden. That would be two selfless players out (Ariza,Odom) and two ball-stoppers in, with RonRon and Gooden. The Triangle would never be the same.
Duncan, Blair, McDyess would be licking their chops to go up against shortbus Gooden.
Its all BS. Both sides are playing each other. He isn't going anywhere. Plus, it doesn't matter, we want no excuses.
