BOTH sides could have done it better
Only an asshole would scream to a cop "I'll see your momma on the porch!"
I mean, what did he THINK the cop was going to do?
Im loving that youre defending this guy, though.
BOTH sides could have done it better
Well, the primary and secondary definitions seem to make my point clear, so I'm kind of confused. How would those definitions result in the refusal to give someone CPR? I can believe those doctrines of racism but be perfectly fine with giving a black person CPR - that wouldn't comprise my beliefs in any way. Of course, using a dictionary.com definition of a complex issue such as racism is as useful as using it to define 'evolution' and 'quantum mechanics.'
Let's frame it in another way. Would a sexist refuse to give a woman CPR? Are sexists opposed to marrying women?
Who said that? I mean, besides you and Marcus Bryant.
How is it defending the left? Obama said he wasn't there and said there are always two side to a story. He said pretty clearly that the best he understood the situation that the man provided ID and was subsequently arrested. Seems pretty stupid to me seemed pretty stupid to everyone else until further information surfaces the entire thing looked pretty ing bad. Pretty unbiased assessment on the situation based on limited info. It also pretty well mirrored everyone else's assessment including the people who dropped the charges and apologized profusely for what happened.
Oh but we ing know that its not enough to make a simple statement even with preface. You guys will turn a simple objective assessment into a complete and utter mess for no good reason other than you refuse to agree with anything coming out of that mans mouth.
He didn't say anything that anyone else wasn't already saying including the ing police department that issued an apology. Stop wasting your time trying to pick apart pointless statements. Focus your energy on fighting this guy on real ing issues.
Were they right about there being a burglary?
Yes or no.
The the faux libertarians here completely abandoned their beliefs because the homeowner here was a liberal black man. I have said before that the police can certainly take the actions they to like tasing grannies on the side of the road -- it doesn't make those actions right.Never fails that Chumpy will defend the left NO MATTER WHAT.
Sure I do. The police were wrong and should have just left after they realized they were wrong. their staying made the situation worse.I would just give up on this one, Chumpy. You have no moral high ground or leg to stand on.
If being an asshole were a crime, the faux libertarians like you would be serving life sentences. The Gates fool acted like an asshole.
So he should be locked up for that, right?Whats worse is that he continues to act like an asshole.
You guys really need to think about this.
Yup. I don't always agree with Marcus, but at least his initial reaction wasn't based upon supporting the cop based on a police report.
Pretty much everyone saying he deserved to be arrested and cuffed and detained for expressing political beliefs.
Now I don't agree with his beliefs -- there is no evidence the officers are racists. They were merely wrong and should have just left after they found out they were wrong.
Yeah, Chump and I "defend the left NO MATTER WHAT."
It amuses me to see so many "conservatives," presumably fans of the Cons ution, immediately leap to defend the state when a black man is involved. That do ent was inspired and created to protect individual liberty and severely restrict the powers of the state. Naturally, that do ent had to be amended to ensure that, hey, it applied to everyone, including, yes, one of those godforsaken darkies.
Further, it is of the highest irony that when the state has a black face, then we are entering dangerous times with a budding fascist turning the country into socialist , but when the state has a white Southie cop face busting some uppity African-American Harvard prof, the state is clearly in the right. You guys are so transparent it is pathetic. And thanks to you, the cause of greater liberty against an expansionist state is all the more diminished.
Whats so hard to understand? Did the cops ever claim there was burglary, or were they called in to investigate one?
Explain some more how the cops were "utterly wrong" about the burglary.
Youre ing clueless. Or should I say "Utterly wrong"!![]()
Were they wrong about a burglary being committed?
Yes or no?
If Obama didnt say anything wrong, then why wont he stand by his statement (see video in first post of thread).
Because he ed up and he knows it (but doesnt want to admit it because of his stupid ego).
Did they ever claim that a burglary was being committed?
Yes or no?
Pretty much spot on. Being an asshole shouldn't be an arrestable offense - especially when its on your property.
"Pretty much" everyone who disagrees with you, huh? Case closed!
And arrested for expressing political beliefs? That's laughable, man.
He provided ID. He was wrong but continued to stick around escalating the situation. He shouldn't have arrested the guy. He should have walked away and chalked it to another black man being loud on his front lawn. Instead he chose spite to prove a point and is now pissed about the spotlight.
It was an unwinable move and yet he made it anyway just because he could.
On the subject of what Obama said, as much as I think he's right its a ing ridiculously stupid thing to say. Why the are you even addressing a local issue like that? Just because he's your friend? Probably one of the least presidential moments he's had in office so far and incredibly bad timing for it. That being said, no one expected him to go four years without saying stupid things from time to time. I hope he learns from this.
I must have missed the part that describes the disorderly behavior in detail. Can you point it out for me?
They went to the house because they assumed a burglary was being committed.
If they didn't, they would not have gone to the house.
Turns out, that assumption was wrong.
Mouthing off and being belligerent to cops on your own property IS an arrestable offense. They call it "disorderly conduct". Its when youre not cooperating with police, which Gates wouldnt do.
the cop did his job. someone called 911. officer investigated. professor acted an ass. plain an simple. the cop did his job.
Cops pull this all the time too. For the most part, people wanting those positions are more prone to power tripping than the average person. Thats exactly what this strikes me as. How often have you seen a cop threaten someone with a ridiculous "disturbing the peace" violation just to get someone to shut up? Its a ty tool for them to have to use.
Surely arresting this man was a horrible waste of government resources most of you should be angry about.
No, they went to the house because someone called in who thought there was a possible burglary.
They didnt assume anything. Theyre not allowed to. If someone reports a possible burglary, they dont make any assumption, they are required to investigate. Hence, whether or not a burglary was being committed, in no way were they "wrong" when they found out that it was the owner who broke in.
Game. Set. Match.
You seem to accept that as a good thing. Many people here do not. Thats the point.
