I'm having an arguement with a friend. He seems to believe you should pronounce Gist with a hard G, Like the word Going.

I believe it's pronounced "Jist" as in a soft G.

Whats the proper way to pronounce his name?

Hard G is used in words such as "good" or "go".

a Soft G is used in words such as, similar to James last name, Gist. the Gist of things. The G is used more like a J. Example, and the reason I pronounced it as "Jist"

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Gist

What was the gist of his speech?

I think you pronounce it as if it were an "O" as in overhyped, overrated, etc.

    I don't see the difference between a hard and a soft G.

James pronounces it at about the 1:15-17 mark of the video above. I always thought it was pronounced with a soft G but it's a hard G.

Yeah we think the same way on occasion. Considering our disagreements, that's kind of shocking. If we're keeping score, I think the above ties us at three apiece.

Apparently we share the same poor taste in humor. That's cool.

I'm not positive, but you might be up 1. That was a while ago. But, it happened like a couple times within a few days or maybe a few weeks or something...
