I said this 'cause Manu is by far the most popular player on this board. Every time there's a "Who's your favorite Spurs?" poll Manu doubles Tim's votes.
Why the heck did you match up the two Spurs so that one would get knocked out of the running? Me and my 20 other user names were ready to send them to the final rounds.

A year ago, there were a lot of BB "specialists" asking who was the main guy on the Spurs: "Tim or Manu".
A lot can change over the course of a year.
Tough one! Went with TP. The spurs could change their team name to the Duncan's and most would like it, considering how Duncan is a god in S.A.(rightfully so). However, I think TP has slightly become the better player. As far as "spurs" value goes, I'm undecided. I would have given timmy the slight edge last year at this time.
'Cause I tried to make the most intersting matchups possible in the first round, and this looked like a pretty interesting one.
If a poll is made in terms of Rockets team that who is your favorite player, then I'm pretty sure Yao will easily win this le even though dude is done for next season and probably for his whole career even. And the 2nd candidate won't have any more votes than even a quarter of Yao's.
Gotta go with Timmy. He's still the leader, and sets every other piece of the offense up when he's doubled.
and a more entertaining argument.
That's pretty much what I'm saying. Manu would win even though he is not even close to beign the best player on the league right now.
I don't think you can really say that Parker's better until you see how Duncan looks next year..
Duncan pre-ASG was playing the same role Tony played post-ASG until he got hurt..
Parker is the better scorer, and he's our clear #1 option offensively..I think that's his only advantage though..Duncan is the defensive anchor/leader/rebounder/most versatile offensive player with his ability to run the offense in the high and low post..
With that being said, Tony was obviously our BEST and most important player last season, due to his emergency as an elite player, and Duncan's injury...
Name me 16 players that are better than Tony right now.
Duncan easily IMO.
btw is this gonna be a tourney style thing where the winners of these polls advance?
absolutely, Yao would also win it as well. Although Argentinian fans are not so dumb and stupid as those Yao fans and there are many other great Argentinian basketball players besides Manu to share the support from their home country, it's still undeniable truth that Manu doesn't deserve to be considered of the same caliber with Tim.
Timmy all the way, i would suggest making a poll between duncan and d-ho. and billups vs parker
Yeah, now that I think about it that would have been more interesting. But it's allready done besides I thought this would be a lot closer than it is right now.
No disrespect to the greatest power forward in the history of the game, but Duncan as a defensive anchor for the last 2 years has been pretty average, and even poor by his own standards. He gets lit up by even "good" (not just elite) low post players now. And, as a leader, he's always been one of those quiet, lead-by-example type leaders. I always felt Manu was more of a leader because of his passion on the court. Tim might be the better defender than Parker, but he's not even that great of a defender. And, while he's the consummate professional and a great teammate, I wouldn't call Duncan one of the great leaders in the game.
I feel Tony Parker makes the Spurs as good as they possibly can be by forcing defenses to react to him, his speed, his aggressiveness, his attacks at the basket, and now his indefensible style due to his improved consistency in his jumper. You can say he's only the better player offensively, but without him, the Spurs would be losing a lot of 85-78 games. The Spurs need Parker's offense, his ability to push the ball in open court and attack half court defenses as well.
Obviously, a lot of people who voted disagree and still believe Duncan is the better player or the more important player. For me, that says more about how weak the front court has been than it is about Duncan being better than Parker. But, I guess I'm in the minority.
There is no question that right now Parker is their best player. Not even debatable.
Duncan still can rebound, defend and even score; so it's Duncan.
TP has improved his game every year, but... well... maybe this season
Last year's playoffs should have answered the question.
This should be a sweep, unanimous victory for Tim ...unless Eva has a Spurstalk account.
