Considering he was supposed to take over Bonner minutes, everybody thought he would look like Wilt Chamberlain. Ultimately, expectations came back to earth and Pop didn't use him much at all in the playoffs.
Uh, no it wasn't, unless you don't watch any regular season games (which wouldn't surprise me). People were saying that stuff 2 days before the playoffs started.
"Sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN.com that Gooden is receiving a one-year deal for $4.5 million with incentives that will likely take it beyond $5 million by season's end. A formal announcement is expected Monday or Tuesday."

Gooden scored more points per minute with the Spurs than Duncan did last year.
Hilarious
Don't tell me Cubes overpaid again...![]()
Frankly, from a practical standpoint, it doesn't really matter whether it's for the full MLE, 4.5 mil, or 3 mil. The Mavs wren't gonna get another contributing player at this point with half (or less) of the MLE. The only reason it matters is in principle, in that it represents yet another instance of Cuban and Donnie overpaying for someone.
That's kinda expensive for Gooden. Although we still have the Bi-Annual to maybe acquire a guy like McCants/Wafer and still the expiring contracts.
Sooo... its whatevaa
If you really think Bumpy is a Nuggets fan, you haven't been here very long.![]()
All teams have fans who do that.
Personally, I never really warmed up to Gooden. I'm actually surprised it took as long as it did for Pop to sour on him.
:wgaf:Without manu we all knew we were going to struggle
With Gooden you get a nice guy who can score in the low post and is a decent rebounder. However, his weaknesses make him an average player at best. He's not much of a defender, does not block shots, and can't pass worth a crap. I think that pretty much covers Drew Gooden's game.
Of course that's true, but I never stated or implied otherwise, I don't think.
I thnk they're trying to save face after the Gortat incident.
What you wanna bet Donnie comes out tomorrow singing 'This is the guy we really wanted all along'...
Yeah, that doesn't make this much of a deal for the Mavs. Although only being tied to him for one year is good. Plus the incentives will likely have him locked in for most of the season.
But if the Mavs are smart, they'd tie his incentives to his rebounding. If they tied it to scoring, he'd likely never pass again![]()
$10,000 he doesn't .
Exactly why we had to drop his ass. Now it is our turn to kick your ass in the playoffs while he rides the pine on your bench.
I don't know that I have that much vbookie cash, but I would bet you...

He sure as was not worth the $10 million he's gonna cost. Dumb and dumber = Donnie and Cuban.
We all knew that DREW was just a cheapass rental
$4.5 million of the MLE for 1 year. The Mavs will pay no luxury tax on Gooden's salary. What is this $10 million you're talking about?
Is there any knowledgeable Spurs fan that wanted him back? And if so why? Implicit in this analysis is that someone would be willing to step up and fork over $4-5 million for Drew, which we would not do. Notice I did not say "dumb enough", although is implied too. I can never resist taking a shot at Cubus (Cuban + Dufus). Has any owner gotten less return on their NBA dollar than that idiot?
