It's always been my understanding the MLE doesn't count toward the luxury tax.

The mavs needed a mobile "center". Gortat would have been that but one gone, he's gone. Dampier is our defensive center against duncan and he's played him as well as can be expected. But his lack of mobility was killing us against a nene for example.

I don't know that much about gooden, but bass certainly was NOT a good defensive small center. Looks like a pretty good replacement for bass to me.

If you're over the lux tax threshold EVERYTHING is taxed. Every last cent in team salaries is taxed. The MLE does not have any immunity against it.
So you only pay tax on the MLE if it puts you over the luxury tax threshold, not if you simply exceed the soft cap limits?

So they basically just replaced Brandon Bass with a slightly worse player in Gooden..not a horrible signing, but doesn't make a big difference..they really need some defensive pieces, they should be moving Dampier by the deadline IMO..

Yeah what Findog said was almost as funny as someone posting on an NSYNC message board.

Yeah you don't know much about Gooden because neither is he.

Bass > Gooden for simply having a better basketball IQ.

Your going to pull your hair out when Gooden because a black hole in the paint and puts up some really stupid shots.

slightly worse? they're the exact same player. decent midrange shooter, black hole on offense, decent athletes, weak defenders, dumb as a brick. Except Gooden is about 3 inches taller and can rebound.

if anything, this is a slight upgrade over Bass.

I think all the Mavs fans on here need to study this effin page and get the answers since I have been kind enough to find the link.

Probably but doesn't change the fact that:

Any height difference is made up with Bass' better basketball IQ.

Dampier is only moving before next summer if they find a replacement for him. That's why Gortat was going to be huge for us - not so much that we were getting the next Wilt Chamberlain, but it meant we could move Dampier now instead of next summer. His expirer is very valuable to any team looking to dump salary and create cap space.

Bass was a tremedously black hole on offense. No handles at all. I did NOT see much bbiq from bass at all.

Once your over the tax line everything is doubled. All salaries are doubled because of taxes. Doesn't matter if the MLE got you over the line or you were already over the line before using the MLE.

I've seen Bass play and I've seen Gooden play.

    IQ versus IQ.

    Bass > Gooden.

We'll be here when you figure that out after a few games.
